Goodyear Eagle F1's... Your experiences?

There's new regs coming in next year about tyre noise. This is why the Asymmetrics have replace the GSD3s because despite being an inferior tyre they are a lot quieter.

No it's not. It isn't an inferior tyre, and GS-D3 remains in production for sizes of 16" and below anyway.

Well all I can go off is my own experience here. When I got a set of 4 assymetrics to replace my worn out set of GSD3s on my old Legacy B4 I found their grip in the wet to be somewhat lacking compared to the old ones. Yes pressures and alignment were correct for both sets of tyres.

Glad I only went for 16's on the new car now, means I can still get a good tyre.

I have had the new F1 Asymm's on my Leon Cupra R (front) for over 6 months now.

I can honestly say they are very good.

Very good grip overall and they have lasted longer than any other tyre I've had on so far.

I used to love the Michelin Pilot Sports - But now I love these.

What I would really like to try is the Toyo R888's - but they are not cheap :(

Personally I would go for the Hankook RS2's. Although the wear rate is the same as GSD3's thats where the similarities end. Its a much stronger tyre in wet & dry and has a much stronger sidewall.

Failing that the Yokohama AD07 is also a great tyre but is a bit on the expensive side but worth every penny.

And they're a completely different tyre to the F1's.

The Toyo R888's are (barely) legal semi-slicks - which are excellent in the dry, and are fairly useless in the wet - whereas the F1's are awesome in the wet, but not quite as good in the dry.

Considering we live in the UK, where it's mostly wet, and very rarely dry, this is why the F1's are very well received! ;) If we lived somewhere hot & dry most of the time, we'd all be driving around on R888's and just not driving the couple of days a year it rains ;)

the hankook's are the same price as conti sportcontact 3s, and i'd put money on the contis being the better tyre.
if you're spending that much, go with the contis

ive read conflicting reports on the goodyears now...some say the ol ones are better, others the newer ones.. others say both delaminate after a good few miles...

what about toyo CF1's or T1rs? both pretty cheap!!

really? :s

£20 difference there, £15 at elitetyres and that has been the trend ive noticed for the last year or so? :s

Last time i check when you could still get hold of GSD3's in this size (think you still can if you look hard enough) i could get them for £96 each fitted for the ultracs for £92, prices have shifted lots recently affraid i was going off old info.

Edit: So its now a £10 difference per tyre, £98 for the GSD3's and £89 for the Ultracs, hardly a world apart is it and its what i consider a few quid when you think these are going to last 9k+ its hardly a bank busting difference :p

What is the Goodyear Eagle NCT5 like, it's the only eagle I seem able to find for 195/55R15. I want to try something different when these Pirellis wear out, which is taking forever.

Good, but not brilliant. Avon ZV5s are better in my experience, particularly in the wet

The conti's are defo not the better tyre. I have driven on both and the RS2 is a much stronger tyre. better feedback, stiffer sidewalls and amazing grip in the dry. It is pretty much a road going track tyre. I think its now being superceeded by the RS3.

I couldnt get the gsd's in 18" this time round so have the asymmetrics on the front now and gsd's still on the rear

and to be honest they seem better, no loss in grip and they are more quiet for sure

I've heard both being balanced on a Road Force balancing machine and the Asymmetrics were much louder?

im going to need some new tyres soon for the type R, im thinking of going for Eagle F1 Reinforced GSD3s for £82 a corner but hear good things about the Bridgestone RE050 (Honda) but there £106 a corner. both 215/45/17

hmm what to go for.

RE050 are superb, unless it's wet.

Would be interesting to see how the "reinforced" F1's compare to the normal ones, which just weren't suited to a Type-R at all.
