Check out these 2 amazing yatch designs

Hmm not sure about the usability of the design of those yachts. There's very little human room versus design - so I'd put these in the same as fashion show statements where the clothes aren't used directly but the designs are used to influence.

Brilliant :D

LGB is still owned by Eugene Schvidler, given to him by Abramovich

Captain said it costs over $11 million a year to keep it going, and had a crew of 50 when the visited Scilly a few days ago.

To keep 6 guests looked after

It did "belong" to Mrs A though I think - I never keep up with the goss :p

It's gone up to 50 eh? When I did the crossing from Germany to the Med we only had 35 crew! I guess no owners, but lots of consultants and contractors.

I've lost count on the number of multi trillionaire's yachts are out there - but wealth is not about having a few homes, and a couple of sports cars and going away on holiday several times a year - it's all to do with the megayacht industry. Having lived the life for 7-8 years it's very easy to forget what it's like to be in the "real world".

A few years ago I was in Antibes (South of France) its the only harbour around there which is large enough to house some of these vessels.

Saw loads, however the most impressive were the owner of NCP Leander http://www.yachtspotter.com/ysp2_ycard.php?foo=20060803

Think it was that one I saw when I was working there last November - had a fence erected around where it was moored and a double staircase curving up each side at the back - we'd been to Monaco the day before and seen some fairly large yachts but some of the ones in Antibes were insane.

That area of France probably has the highest concentration of wealth of anywhere in the world - AFAIK the world's most expensive house got sold there last year too.

Antibes has the famous IYCA which berths all these floating gin palaces. Spent far too much time there - though it was nice to be back in my home country at the time :)

Here's a pic I took off the back of Ecstasea doing a test run of it's gas turbine - this yacht is over 80m long and we're doing about 35knots! :D

by hand!

Naturellement ;)

Shhhhh dammit - you'll give the game up! :D

FF, what did you do?

If you dont' buy any of the above....

I was a project manager/consultant for new and current builds, mainly involving telecommunication systems, though also IT systems for the yachts and some systems integration (i.e. between the audio/hi-fi/tv systems, cctv etc....).

It was a fun and glamorous job - but after 7-8 years of living out of a suitcase and taking over 30-40 flights a year I had had enough of it! Although i travelled the world, and rubbed shoulders with those that I'm not worthy of and had beyond 5* experiences (eg: was driven in a Bugatti Veyron and Zonda F round Monaco GP circuit!!) it wasn't worth it in the end, even for the money.

However I was involved in the build of many yachts, and refits, upgrades, and basically spent most of my time whoring myself out to them :D I did get my hands dirty many times with the engineers and other contractors which was quite good fun - it was more fun than convincing stubborn Dutch and German yacht builders why I needed x amount of space, and y amount of cooling, and z amount of power etc... :D

I'm guessing after 8 years working you probably couldn't even afford the tender for the tender :p

The gold diggers quickly worked out he was one of the staff and not the owner! Hehe.

Seriously though things like that get old and living out of a suitcase gets tiring after a while.

Yup. Was good fun though, and the stewardesses were always pretty, as were the day workers employed to clean the yachts... bikinis, hot sun, and foamy soapy water - what more could you want :D Shame I had to be in meetings most of the time stuck indoors :( I obviously was always well behaved and never went out with the yachties for nights of debauchery ;)
