Coolest (and quietest) 500GB?

Haven't used the model of Samsung you mention but I have three of the Seagates 500GB and they aren't the quietest.

Samsung drives have a reputation for being quiet drives (I can remember my old Samsung Spinpoints not making any noise at all) so if it was me I'd go for the Sammy.

You have the 7200.12 500gig? not the .11?

Coz I have 7 of them in use atm and got through a few more including system builds and so far they have all been as close to silent as makes no odds...

Samsungs are generally a good bet for quiet as well...

My brother has a big array of WD Greens and even with AAM setup for quietness they make quite a bit of noise on access... tho not sure how loud one on its own is, but the whole array is far from quiet.
 
The 500GB 7200.12's have been VERY unreliable for us at work. All the 7200.11 drives have been totally fine.

We lost 4 out of 10 .12's with a maximum of a few days of use. Rubbish drives.
 
i have the seagate 7200.12 its nice and fast not checked temps but its in a antec 900 case i cant hear it over the fans, so im happy with it :)
