Cancel your Orange contract now!

Rang up 3 times now and they won't let me cancel, been told my text is scheduled to be sent on the 8th of August (why can't they just send it to me now?!), but they're most likely just bsing me.

anyone on dolphin managed to cancel there contract? mrs just rang up and has been told it doesn't affect her.

Yeah, I was on Dolphin 30 (£20 a month) and they let me cancel just now.

Just trying to decide what to go with now, just a cheap contract/sim only or a similar one with a nice phone/iPod etc. for 'free'.

Wait guys let me get something straight here...

You can cancel the contract, and keep the phone? Even though you havent paid for the phone fully yet as it was free with the contract?

As above, they've shot themselves in the foot by giving you a 'free' phone or saying handset only costs '£xxx' with this deal :D

Hmm that's the date I was told as well. Either they've got a decent batch of them going out on the 8th or they're just consistent in their lying :)

Er that sounds quite good?? have you been with Orange a while or haggled with them to get that deal? Mine is same phone on Dolphin 35, so £35 a month (£25 with redemption), no internet, 600 mins, unlimited texts?

Basically I called up with a complaint....I upgraded to a 12 month deal but they launched me on an 18month contract without telling me. So....I had that and then I threatened to just cancel the deal and leave to another network (T-Mobile and a Touch Diamond) and they offered me the discounts and the phone for nothing and I recieved it the following day. If you have something to go to then they will be desperate to keep you.

I'm looking through all these deals on the net and nothing really sticks out. Seems a lot of the new contracts these days seem to be 24months, well for the decent deals so I'm unsure if a change would be worthwhile

Sorry I thought you read this bit in the OP

"Applies if contract was taken out before 31st May 2009!"

what you think people bother reading from the 1st post of a thread once its 2+ pages? ;)

as I said I canclled mine on saturday, asked to be transfered to payg so waiting till the sim arrives. once I register he sim the contract will be ended, I forgot to make sure they wouldn't charge me for the remaining 11months(which they shouldn't) so going to give them a ring to check.

for the o2 sim only 12month deal it now says for a limited time, no dates given. I'm tempted by it as well.

doubt everyone will read this and we'll still get asked the same question, but regarding the keeping/returning the mobile situation:

if you got it directly through orange(shop, web, over the phone) then per the t&c as already stated on here and the link in the op, it's yours to keep and they can't tell you to return it.

if you got it through mobiles.co.uk etc then you may/may not have to return it depending on what their t&c states.

Way to admit to obtaining goods by deception, or possibly fraud.

To everyone who has a mobile phone from Mobiles.co.uk and is considering cancelling; Orange do not pay us commission on contracts ended within a certain period of them starting, therefore the mobile phone you obtained from us (and the free gift) has not been paid for. Without returning the phone and free gift Mobiles.co.uk have no choice but to request payment for these goods from the customer who has them.

This is why we have Terms and Conditions (which *must* be agreed to prior to you submitting your order), to protect our business and employees.

Happy to answer questions about this issue, but using it as a pretext to cancel your contract and keep the mobile and/or free gift is dishonest and illegal. It's no different to
clawing back payments for perfectly good products via your credit card issuer.

Yeah, its because technically you don't 'pay' for the phone using your line rental. They SELL you the phone for 'free' and so you own it. They obviously plan to make the money back through the tariff.

This is why the terms say you can keep your phone. This is why in nearly all cases its better for you to use this golden opertunity to cancel! The only real reason not to is you can't be bothered to deal with the hassle.

Inciddentally this is also the reason why you can request a free unlock code, because the phone belongs to you from day one (as soon as you accept the whole terms of the sale, i.e. start the contract and dont return it within 14 days or whatever). They do of course charge you an admin fee for the code tho :P

Another reason not to cancel is if you have already got a lot of discounts from them off the original tariff. You lose them if you wanted to sign up to a new contract as you would be a new customer.

For me it is looking pretty pointless to cancel because if I signed up for a new phone the same tariff would cost £35 where as at the moment I am paying just under £20. Also for a better phone than I have I would have to pay extra. Doesn't seem worth it.

Now if you have a bog standard tariff with no discounts then it is great to be able to cancel and join as a new customer. Keep the phone and sign up and get another phone to sell on with the monthly cost being the same.

Got the text yesterday. I don't use anything out of bundle so it doesn't bother me, but in any event I've already got my PAC. Now just to decide whether or not to use it.
