Ever get sick of looking for a new car?

You've no hope of ever buying anything decent if you are going to limit yourself like that. 40 miles is too far to drive?!

lols, I went to Southampton for mine. I had to basically take a full day out to go collect it.

I've driven further than 40 miles just for a test drive, i'd go a lot further to actually buy it if I thought it was worth it.

Plus you're limiting yourself so much by giving such a small range.

i drove to germany :o
400 mile round trip to look at it
however, i think this is one of the major reasons i bought it. if it was somewhere closer to home i could well have walked away.
well, that and i fact i wanted to buy it as soon as i saw it on the internet weeks previously :/

Change your mind back again.

Reasons being? As much as I like the fact the car has German underpinnings and the BAM engine, there's something about the body shape I've really gone off. I think it's the line from the driver's door back to the boot. Mechanically the LCR is better than the CTR, but as an overall car I am leaning towards the CTR.

i think the leon looks really good, has good stance from the front and the back..
certainly better looking than a ctr (breadvan)
much nicer place to be than a ctr probably

In what way?

Should have probably clarified that instead of leaving a blunt and possibly derogatory statement. It would have been better for me to say "the CTR has the potential for more annoyances than the LCR".

The previous Honda I had suffered from seized callipers, the bodywork didn't age as well as my previous VWs and obtaining parts was a lot more expensive for the Honda than it has been for the Goof.

Admittedly the first two points are (so I'm informed) down to the fact the callipers and paint were designed and used with Japanese road environments in mind, so don't fare as well over here. I have a friend with a CRX that has been through multiple rear callipers, as has another mate's Lude.

I'm probably just about to get my behind chewed for the above, but always happy to be re-educated.

edit - sorry for taking your thread o/t op...

I have been searching PistonHeads and Autotrader for the last few weeks looking for my next car.

Started off looking at the Focus ST and BMW 330i/D, after this i was looking at the ST220 [a newer car for the money]. Then i flirted with the idea of a Subaru WRX/STi but, the high running costs put me off in the end.

So now i really dont know what i want to get next and find myself just browsing through PH as if in a daydream!
Just go for the bimmer. Join the dark side :p

Well, the above, plus the fact that the leon won't feel like a matchbox car in build quality, nor will it feel like it was designed from the inside to be "Tomy's my first car".

I thought the GTI, S3, and Cupra/FR all took parts out of the same bin?

Or does it not work like that?

They do all share some common components, but other than the haldex on the S3, and the brembos on the LCR, the direct component share between the LCR and the S3 is a much higher comparison than with any of the other shared platform models.

What you are effectively saying with the S3/GTI being "out of the same bin", is also saying that a 1.4CL golf is also "the same".
