Samsung HD103SI problem

So I bought the Samsung HD103SI about 2 weeks ago and it has been working fine until recently, something has gone terribly wrong.

I have around 10,000 (ish) photographs stored in multiple folders (by date) and I can't seem to access them, I can get into the folders and see the images but they sometimes will not load, or take around 3 minutes to load a single 1MB image. Also if I try to view the pictures, it'll usually cause my system to freeze and wig out. Also if I try to copy the photos to another HDD but its just not having it and keeps saying "cannot read from the source file or disk"

I know its not the files since I have some backup copies on another HDD and they load perfectly, also it just seems to be the photographs. I can view other files (such as videos/exe programs/music) on the disk and they run fine.

Long story short: Am getting "cannot read from the source file or disk" in a certain folder of my new HDD, is there any way to fix this or am I fukt?

EDIT: Also if the data is corrupt (might not be, just throwing it out there) I assume it means there's a chance it'll happen again with this HDD, would I be better off just wiping it, returning it to OC and spending like £10 more for another F1 1TB HD103UJ?

Well I left the folder to load and a lot of the images have like... grey blocks in them, I'm guessing they've gotten corrupt or something.

Kinda sucks. Oh and I think I'm going to RMA the drive and spend a little more on another F1 HD103UJ, I really don't want to have to risk losing data again in the future.

Oh great

No point in getting worked up about it - you have a dud drive (it happens), but you had the sense to back your data up, so just RMA it and move on.

I don't think there's any evidence that the HD103SI is any more failure-prone than the HD103UJ, by the way - I've not had much luck with HD103UJs over the last year, but from what I've read elsewhere I have a feeling that hard drives in general (of all makes) are less robust than they were, say, a few years ago. Maybe it's part and parcel of the new technology with ultra-high densities and capacities, or maybe they just don't build them like they used to.

Either way, a decent backup plan up is the only way to have peace of mind (apologies for stating the flippin' obvious)... :)

Not worked up, just disappointed.

Anyway if I wipe the drive will that fix the bad sectors, because I don't really want to pay to send the drive back, only to have OC return it to me and charge me.

You can't fix bad sectors unless they're just marked bad in error and not actually a damaged area. RMA it to Samsung direct (Rexo), costs just a few £ postage and you'll get a new drive in a couple of days.

By the look of things I'm pretty sure that drive is toast, but you could check it out with Samsung's own diagnostic tool if you wanted a second opinion: ES-Tool

If you return the faulty drive to the supplier for a refund or replacement under the SoGA (as you'd be within your rights to do), you wouldn't have to pay postage, but in practice you may find it less hassle to deal direct with Rexo, who are pretty quick and efficient in my experience: http://www.rexo.co.uk/warranty.php

I am having to RMA my 103 as it would only recognise it as a 32mb drive in XP. I formatted it and now it just comes as disk error when booting :(
