Garage Project inc. Bumper repairs & Alloy refurb *Lots of pics*

How much would you charge for repairing the paintwork on that 530d for example?

I have a similar level of damage on my front bumper from the previous owner that I'd like sorted as the rest of the paintwork is spot on.

if it were me id charge £50-£100 depending whats round the other side lol.

Excellent work mate, always wondered how an alloy was brought back to life and now I know! I'd love to be able to do all that, my car is in need of some very similar work all over but I'd only make it (much) worse if I tried.

Good stuff and exactly how I've repaired alloys in the past too.

It's never perfect, but for £20 or whatever a rattle can of paint, lacqeur, some W&D & filler costs you can't complain & most people simply can't tell unless they get up close and go looking for it.

My wife's civic has a mysterious dent in the boot which looks like some kids have shot it with an air rifle - garage want £180 cash, I'll sort it for around £30 tops.

do you and your friends all have really bad eye sight? all those cars have scuffs lol (apart from the amg).. what a lovely car

Hi matey, where do you get your painting supplies from? A local company? What's the proper name for that soft 3M stuff.
I'm planning on sorting some rust on my GF's Fiesta.

I've found it an interested thread, thanks for posting.

This is what I need to learn, my bumpers have slight scuffs all over from London parking, but the metal pannels are mint.

Quoted £300 roughly to have them finished, think its worth having a go myself, cant make them any worse!

the 3m soft stuff is called 3m soft foam edge tape as far as im aware, u can get cheaper versions we have like 3 boxes here lol.

i used to buy paint from a place called Hex holdings,
but now i just mix all my own rattle cans and paint :D, we use 498- 2pk paint for everything very expencive.

Awesome thread, good to see you doing something with garage. Really must get around to convincing Dad to do the same with ours, it's the same sort of size yet half of it is so stuffed full of cack I can't get my car in :p

btw you told me the Vectra was the family runaround to keep miles off the S ;)

Looking at the pics, it looks like his dad used a proper spraygun. Reason i ask is because i have all the gear and no idea :D I have succesfully sprayed 2 wings, but it took me absolutley ages as i had to sand each coat down, cut/polish to a shine. The proper bodyshops can get a good shine straight out the gun without too much cutting, but the secret is in the ratio of thinners, type of paint, air pressure and spraygun. This is what i wanted to know

he dident use a spray gun he used a hair dryer. it is very hard to get a *car* finish out the gun i have been spraying for about 2 years now and im still learning :D our paint is mixed at a ratio of 3-2-1 thats 2pack and out metallic is mixed at 50/50 with basecoat thinners with a drop of hardener but as we cant use basecoat anymore we use waterborn with is harder to spray with but more enviro frendly that is just mixed at 5/2 with activator no water sorry for the long post.

I did my wheels the weekend just gone, I took mine of the car tho, just makes it easier.

I just wanted to see how easy it was to do, I used a mouse type sander to sand the gouges and scratches down, and used some Ford Moonlight Silver, over the rim part, it blended quite well.

I was gonna fill and primer the edges, but then it hit me, its a ****ing company car:p, but its seriously tidied the alloys up, for the sake of an afternoons work, roll of masking tape and a £10 rattle can, its a world of a difference.

I must get our garage sorted, weve got a big ass compressor and a heavy duty engine hoist, and some good air tools.

Great results for very little effort on the S-Class wheels!

Wish it was possible to easily achieve the finish I need on my M5 wheels as then i'd give them a go myself before resorting to using the professionals!
