So my University has its 'Freshers Week' details up...

i cant wait for my freshers, looking forward to this the most...

Westfield Shopping Lockdown with Zane Lowe

*****NO OTHER STUDENTS' UNION IN THE COUNTRY IS DOING THIS *****

A party in a shopping centre with Zane Lowe and the Home Taping tour. The night will consist of heavily discounted, exclusive, one-night-only offers; two shops will be turned into bars and clubs for the night and Zane Lowe from Radio 1 with his entourage of cool will be spinning the decks to get you 'bopping while your shopping' - an experience you'll never forget.

This sounds different and a lot of fun. Better than all the standard freshers rubbish. Where abouts and date, im tempted!?

Think there are a few freshers 'raves' in Leeds but they arn't proper dance nights. Will be more of the standard cheese and r&b usual crap

Time: 7.00pm-11.00pm

Do you have to show student ID? Its a bit gash that it finishes at 11pm when i usually go out at 11pm. Especially as im used to 4/5/6am closes. Is there somewhere nearby for 'after' party?

I'm personally dreading freshers week a bit as I don't drink at all, and watching people getting drunk isn't fun for me. I'm predicting I'll just be stuck in my room playing games whilst everyone else is partying.

Don't you dare!

I know a few people who hadn't drunk much before uni (weirdos :P) but they got into on fresher's week. Who knows, you might like it.

Even if you don't like drinking, it's a perfect opportunity to smash some fanny. Even more so if the fresher's live on-campus :D

I like busy, but I don't like waiting 25mins for a drink. :p

Sneak spirits in a girl's bag! Constant access to drink plus a cheap night! :D

You'd rather play games than go out socialising, why dont you drink? You can be a social drinker you know..

At university, you tend to live with friends which is good but you're constantly skint and you'll often find yourself having to argue with and put up with very selfish individuals who refuse to pull their weight or grow up; people steal your food, damage your possessions, make lots of noise and generally don't give a toss unless they're having fun. If you're lucky you might end up living with people who aren't like this, but I wouldn't put money on it.

You speak of this as if it is fact, and it seems a lot of people say the same. Yes, generally most people will be skint and all that, but not everyone. I know my future university experience will be nothing like that.

My Uni life was very much like the American Pie movies (Bristol undergrad, Nott'm Post-grad).

I'll second that - as far as extremes go I would place myself middle of the road socially. Nevertheless, the stories, chat, good times and memories are simply fantastic, and the good times keep coming.

Last year I was in a house with 3 undergraduates and me as a postgraduate - never has there been so much epic chat under one roof.

I'm not going to uni this year, I'm working for a gap year. Doesn't mean I'm not going out for Freshers though!

Quite a few friends are going to the local uni's (Bath, Bath Spa, UWE, Bristol) and others aren't going to uni at all so staying in Bath anyways, so I'm not gonna be billy for a year! Plus I know some of the students at Bath already.

I'd probably do the same, I socialise differently. Believe it or not, there's such a thing but from your post you haven't thought of that?

I don't understand the mass idea that to socialise you must;
1: Drink Alcohol
2: Go "out" (usually at night) to a bar, or club.

What boring, boring lives you must lead if this is the only way you socialise, if that is indeed the only way, ignore and don't reply if this isn't you ;P

I cannot stand inebriated people, they are irritating, loud, obnoxious and have no idea what they are doing. I won't stand it sober and I'm not like that if/when I do drink. I also prefer socialising when the people I socialise with are on the same level of reality as me :p

Oh and all of my friends are the same as me, they socialise in different ways than the club/pub/drinking scene, so it's hard to socialise when nobody else you know does it.

It does make me a little mad when someone posts something like you did, not understanding the full extent of what you just said. How little thought went into thinking how else a person may socialise and the fact that people like/dislike different things such as alcohol. I find most alcohol wrank, except whisky and even then not much of that.

Lastly, it's not like you can't experience any of what people have posted here any week of of your entire life should you chose it ;)

You heard it here first he knows the future!!!

Got my third freshers fair coming up, obviously not a fresher, I had university projects to do during both, hopefully it won't happen this time round.

Nix has pretty much got it right.

Just made me check up on qub's site to see if anythings announced (even about registering for 3rd year) not a sausage :(

Oh well, it'll be the same as the last 2 years, heavy drinking for the first 2-3 weeks, mate getting mugged/lost in a bush then feeling ill/poor till halloween again :D

Some times i get the impression some of my mates are deliberately failing bits just to keep living like this...

I didn't mean I'll know exactly what will happen. Just, I won't be stuck in small, rundown accommodation with barely any money to survive. :p

These freshers week sound fairly tame to be honest! The Oxford Brookes Freshers week has turned into 2 weeks of entertainment lineup with 3 fairly large/cult following acts.

Although no doubt that leeds and the larger unions will get the big headliners like feeder etc

G-MAN, I wouldn't worry. I didn't even work in my 1st year and I always had money to go out with. It depends on how you go out. I do lots of pre-drinking and take spirits out so I spend very little at the bar. I'll spend maybe 15 quid and have a brilliant night.

15 quid a night?

Ouchy I must be doing it wrong! Or just that Bath's expensive. Or both.
