New car....and its a...

its not that expensive to run, depends on how you drive it and what kind of milage you do.

I only really get 20-25mpg around town but can quite easily get 32-35mpg on a steady run.

These cars are more to run than an equivalent smaller engined car but its not a lot, maybe an extra fiver per 100 miles.

Its worth it for the sound and power!

Nice one - get the pics up!

Would love an ST, currently drive a TDCI and its a fantastic car - one with more power and a few more toys would be perfect :D

I thought the saloon was more sought after than the hatch/estate? A lot of people seem to prefer them? I have to admit, I prefer the way they look but not convinced in terms of practicality. One of the great things about the mondeo is its ability to swallow a stupid amount of "stuff". Did a trip to Ikea with 2 friends and happily got a wardrobe, a dining table/chair set, some bookshelves and the usual bags of ikea crap in the back, not sure if you'd be able to do quite so much in the saloon.

Would be interested to hear from the ST owners around here what fuel costs are like on a day to day basis - that's the only thing stopping me from replacing my car with one. Insurance is only another 50 quid over my current car, just not sure if I can cope with going from a 2.0 diesel to a 3.0 petrol :)

Most of my driving is my commute, where I dont have the opportunity to hammer it (except the motorway slip road) - its 10 minutes out of town the 15 minutes down a dual carriageway. That mix of driving gets me just shy of 40mpg in the TDCI and it can push 50 on a long run.... If I can get a petrol that will average 30mpg its not going to affect my running costs too much.

Would love to drive one to see if they suit me, but finding one locally to have a go in isnt easy...

Davey - that looks awesome, I LOVE performance blue...

i would say you will get 25-30mpg in an st220 on that run, just get it up to 35-40mph, stick it in 6th and potter along :)

Its a trade off as with most things, sure its going to cost a little more but when you get onto a nice road and give it some its wonderful, especially accelerating from 50mph in third, pulls very well and sounds gloreous!

Heh, yeh - the only compromise I can see at the moment is fuel cost. The difference in insurance is negligible, service costs are the same.... hmmm...tempting

Looks lovely for 5k, I just looked up the performance figures and they are not as fast as I assumed they where. Still a lovely motor though and that is a very nice color.

i find it faster than the figures give. The cars torque limited in first and second, and its a fair old lump to get on the move. From 50mph upwards it flies.

Im in the same boat as you, except its a Focus TDCI i drive now and will be upgrading to an ST-3 in november, lovely cars just want more gadgets/power to play with.

Still a 1.6 TDCI to a 2.5 Petrol is about the same jump as your 1.2 Petrol to a 3.0 Petrol :D

The boot is huge in the saloon and the seats go down too. That said it's seems even bigger to me I guess coming from an 02 plate clio

Looks like a great buy, the price is obviously a bit more mates rates as they haven't dropped that much but are still great value with the level of it and performance you get.

Looks like you just got the base spec car, but what a fantastic level of kit for base eh :D

iaind get yourself to the southern meet and I'll take you out in mine. Mine has been relatively cheap to run *touch wood* just servicing tyres and petrol, well and the mods but thats all self inflicted. I average 25mpg in mine on a similar commute to yours iaind as well as my general hoons, on a run I will get 34 or so at 70mph.

I didnt think there was much more spec outside of sat nav on my particular year? what other options were there?

Satnav, parking sensors, sunroof, xenons, privacy glass. I think.

I think theres a different seat option - alcantara maybe?

Nah that was only ever the half leather when the ST TDCI was brought in but never offered on the ST220's I believe.

Ah thats what I'm thinking of - the full leather was an option on the ST TDCI..

The nav will be a bit outdated by now, sunroof is nice but not necessary with aircon... The one thing I wish my car had is parking sensors - they're big old cars and not the best rear visibility
