I wanted to run my 360 on my Dell 21" CRT and bought a VGA. The amount of flicker was just too much for my eyes though as obviously its only 60hz...however I do usually run the monitor on 100-120hz so I've probably become very sensitive to it.
Though it depends really, if you're still using CRT TVs around the house you may not notice it as much. For me CRT televisions and monitors are becoming a pain to watch as 99% of the time I'm using LCD, even my dad has an LCD TV.
What goes wrong exactly? Some sort of picture corruption?
Also, CRT monitors have been hi-def for decades as previously said, in fact it'd probably be a challenge to find a crt monitor that was a lower resolution than 720p. If there's problems with Dead Rising on a CRT monitor it isn't because they're not high definition, its probably more to do with the aspect ratio.
It's good...I used to play on my old dell 19" CRT a few years back..never had any problems, picture was very sharp, just make sure you get the official vga cable, the others seem to be poor quality.
CRT tvs don't process the image the same way montiors do. I can't remember the technical reason behind this - but it's out there if you want to search.
A 60 hz game on a crt tv does not look like a 60 hz game on a crt tv.
I think you're partly right, it is worse on a monitor, but try sitting right in front of a crt TV, it's almost as much agony as a CRT monitor running at 60hz. I used to run my monitor at 60hz all the time (it was crap and only supported that at higher resolutions) but just sat back a bit and it was ok. If i sat right up next to it like i do with my LCD monitor it was like some form of torture though.
