whats your resting heart rate?

Mines 48 as I sit here at the desk, not bad considering I'm an old biffer (46) but I've been doing a lot of Cardio this year in order to lose weight.

At the Gym I try and keep it above 130 and peaking around 155, playing squash though it can go up to 170

Following a one off measurement - resting HR 47 bpm. Then beep test, max HR of 188 (but not maxed out, started raining and was on grass), back to 85 after 1.2 mins. In conclusion, pretty damn fit! :p

Whats a good rate ? i was under the impression 64 is kinda ok if your doing nothing or am i wrong ?

Depends on age also maybe ?

ps. mines 76 and im 45.

Yikes!!

those are really dodgy
we've got one and i dont really trust it.
the first reading gave me 180/96 and then 120/80

It doesn't but it does allow you to formulate your training, if you train by heart rate zones, and are looking to increase your fitness.

I'd be interested in how the majority are measuring their resting heart rate or having it measured.

Mine was measured by a nurse as part of a health checkup so I guess it could be a bit lower as I hadn't been lying around for 20 mins or anything beforehand. She used a proper machine thingy to measure it (technical term there)

I've just bought a Garmin 305 so I'll be able to track my heart rate properly next week.

After a month of running every other day I've noticed my resting heart rate going right down. At first it was around 65bpm and my exercise consisted of nothing. Since running I redid my resting heart rate again with my Garmin 405 and it came back as 46bpm, this was just sitting still, not after waking up. I thought it was mis-reading but yesterday I was in hospital for a check up and they took my heart rate and again it showed around 46-48bpm. I'm happy even if it doesn't mean that much other than I'm fitter than I was before. :)

I've had my blood pressure taken 7 or 8 times today and even though I was watching the machines I still have no idea what my heart rate is . I checked and it seems to be around 68 which I don't think is too bad. It's hard to feel though since my blood pressure is low.

56bpm sat at my desk. Anything below 60 is really very good, must be a lot of people at the peak of physical fitness in this thread, or numb fingers ;)

Blood pressure last time it was checked was bang on at around 120/80. I'm a sporty type, though I smoked for five years and was at one point a tubster, twas in my youthiest of youths. Guess I got away with it :p

Ant
