Numberplate printing rules

Suprised to hear that people have actually failed on the number plates MOT wise. None of the garages round here seem to care in the slightest, I checked this morning and the Jeep went through and it does not have the markings (it's a post 01 car).

Admittedly this was the same MOT place where the Mini passed emissions without being able to start... :p

The A series engine in the Mini was exempted from the new emissions regs as they couldn't get them low enough IIRC.

So I got my plates from Halfords today. £28 for the pair in the end.

The logo is barely noticable at all. It's an etched effect in the bottom centre, no bigger than 1cm high and 1.5cm wide.

Can't see it at all unless up close.

Will get a pic or two up later if you guys want.

28 quid for a pair? Thats ridiculous, why did you pay so much?

Is now a bad time to admit that I just paid £30 for mine a few days ago?

(I thought I was doing ok considering they're £60 at the Porsche dealers)

That might be true for the late model (1999-2001) models but mine is an old 1992 and does have to pass the basic test... it's not at all that high but it still passed without being able to run!

First time it went through when running (they managed to break it) it failed on emissions (due to a knackered valve among other things) among other more sevre things, so it certainly is tested.

O/T

but motorbike reg plates.

Anyone point me in the direction of a company that does them and also what size can I have without the police etc having issues with them?

thanks

give over

he doesnt look that young. And isnt that what the photocard part of the driving license is for ? to proove your ID ?

"Fox McLovin" :D

Anyway, this numberplate policing is an annoying grey area to most people. If they want us to conform to some regulations then they may has well just issue us with the number plates i nthe first place and renew them within the life cycle of the plate itself.

The idea of having to take time out to go and get them made irritates me. As life gets more and more automated and work hours get longer and people want more free time, our institutions seem to get more and more draconic to me.
