What do i do about crap calls?

If they ring back tomorrow just ask him/her to hang on a second while you get the homeowner, and then place the phone to one side. This will cost them money and may deter them :) You could even keep them hanging on by saying the person is just on their way etc...wont be long now :D

This is what I do, seems to work.

Unfortuantely TPS isn't effective against a) companies claiming to be doing market research (which invariably is really just cold calling); and b) companies registered outside the UK. Saying that, it's free to register with TPS and I think everyone should do it just to stop UK-based companies from cold calling.

Recently registered with TPS and it seems to have cut out most of the crap calls, even the pre-recorded ones that start "Hi, this is a public service announcement..."

However I guess it is not effective against calls from overseas in which case your best recourse is either to have a bit of fun with them, or just drop a F-bomb then hang up.

TBH the phone is not the main irritation as the ultimate weapon is just to hang up, it's E-on and N-power knocking on the front door every other week trying to co-erce you into signing up for energy supply!

*may not be very practical*
do what I did and unplug the phone.
Only have it due to internet anyway and a mobile on contract so might as well use the free minutes.

I do this as well.

Also, use that website which is referable here but strangely on the censor to avoid not using free minutes. The one where you bang your fist on the table and say no to 0870.

Just to add, I signed up to the TPS a few weeks ago for both the mobile and landline numbers and thinking back we have had very few unwanted calls to the landline which is good.

As for the mobile hopefully over time the amount of calls will drop but seeing as it's a business line it's bound to get more cold callers trying to sell rubbish.

That, tbh. Oldie but a goodie! :D As said TPS won't work, just ignore them and hope they go away (worked for me), or else pay the couple of quid to block anonymous/international calls.

pretend to be a child and explain that your parents are "doing things". :D

If they call again, repeat.

Try to throw the surname "rabbits" in there xD

I prefer to play bingo. Look out for key words like 'one time offer' 'homeowner' or 'free' everytime they say the key words shout Bingo.

When you answer say:

"Hello you have won much monies on Nigerian lottery"

:D

The last two times they have rung in the evening I've asked them how they got the number I've informed them that we are registered with the TPS, that its an offense to ring the number, then gone on to ask for the name of their manager and the company they work for.
Both times they have hung up, and I've not head any for a couple of weeks now.
