connecting a ps3 to a dg384gt ?

first guys thanks for the support , i have got this far - we gavethe ps3 a static address andset it up as we thought was right and the ps3 saw the ssid and network key and auto searches it then fails , i hope we are putting in the right info . so i decided to test the wireless to make sure it did work , i unplugged my pc from the wired network and tried the wireless adapter it kept trying to get an ip address after seeing the ssid and net key it did this for a number of minutes and i got feed up and connected to an unsecured network from a neighbor and it worked , so i know i could get on line . just not with netgear adapters . this morning i tried again and am able to get on with my pc so my wireless works to a degree for how long i dont know . my problem is now do i give my son my wired side and keep wireless myself or do i try again with the ps3?
also this is a sky box which is new and flashed with the latest netgear firmware or do i flash it like Memphis says with the god gt software as netgear. com dont want to help.i also have a static ip address but set the router to dynamic - do iset it to static ?
sorry for the long winded reply but networks make me nervous and loss the will to live but if you can help me further i would appreciate it , Steve

If you set the router to static you'll need to assign all computers on the network with static IP addresses. You could give it a try if you wanted. In the Network and Sharing Centre on your PC make note of the DNS addresses (or use OpenDNS), Gateway Address, Subnet Mask etc. of an adapter and manually enter them in. Something maybe up with DHCP if devices are struggling to obtain an IP.

I've got a Netgear DG834GT and the 1.02.19 firmware has known issues with security. I had exactly the same wireless trouble as you're having.
Revert back to the 1.02.16 firmware and you'll be set.

hi i have changed the firmware to 1.02.16 via gt gods and if i swap out my wired to wireless it sees the ssid and net key but sits for ages trying to acquire a isp address and i am loosing the will to live with it the same happens with my sons ps3 which sees the ssid and key but fails ? are we putting in wrong info to ps3 ie sub ,dns ip address what is going wrong i dont know , i feel like throwing out the ps3 and the router i have spent 3 days getting nowhere- please help------someone

I can see it mentioned previously in the thread but haven't seen you say you've tried it:

Have you tried WEP encryption as opposed to WPA? Some people have issues with that router and the PS3 using WPA is seems.

I never understand things like this. The ps3 is fixed hardware, as is the router. It either works or it doesn't. I am unsure how it can work for some people and not others. The people who can't get it to work have their config wrong or reception issues.

What known security issues are you referring to? I used 1.02.19 and everything works as 1.02.16 (my previous firmware). I connected WPA devices to it fine?

From what I read there are some DHCP reservation issues with this firmware (Although I did not come across these). I have seen this with some older DG834x firmwares. This is not a security issue though?

OP you need to set a static address etc to test it (and eliminate any DHCP issues).

If you can figure out how to turn on the remote web management then set it up and give me a shout and I will have a look at the router settings, and then tell you what you need to put in your PS3. username @ gmail.com

Sorry, it''d been a while since I had the problems and it was due to DHCP issues; I was thinking security because this firmware had better wireless encryption options. Once I allocated a fixed address for my wireless printer my other devices (360, laptop, etc) had issues getting IP address'.

There's a thread here: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=38705

hi this is the state of play i flashed the firmware to the dgt teams 1.02.16 and tried both wpa and wep set ups also i disabled the security and still no go and that is on my pc and not the ps3 which is the unit we want to connect to , the router sees the ssid and net key and has full strength signal and sits saying "aquiring address" but this is as far as it gets i have no problems with the wired side it runs great , but no wireless ?

Here my settings:

Under Basic Settings:

NAT (Network Address Translation) Enabled

Under Wireless Settings:

Enable Wireless Access Point YES
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) YES
Wireless Isolation NO
WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)

Under LAN IP Setup

Use Router as DHCP Server YES
Then I have a few reserved IP address' but you don't need any.

iv diabled security and both m ypc and my sons ps3 can get on line wirelessly -so what am i doing wrong as i dont want to leave the system open ?

my wireless logitech mouse is acting funny ie sluggishly wile using the wireless router , fitted new batteries , could it inter fear with the router ?

iirc you need to find out the mac address of the PS3 and then assign that mac address a permanent IP on your router.
Not quite, that would be if you wish to reserve an IP address from the DHCP pool to always be given to the PS3 (that still uses DHCP, which in his case, may be broken in some way).

I connected my ps3 to the dg834gt and it would not connect so I jsut entered the IP manually and it is fine.

You are confusing people with your short posts, and vague details.

Do this: Go to the "LAN IP Setup" screen in your router. There will be a starting and ending range. Go through the MANUAL setup on the PS3 and set the IP manually to a number in that range.
