To kick NVIDIA in the face while they are still 'down' lol. NVIDIA won't have a new GFX card for Windows 7, ATI will have a whole range of cards. If they get their flagship out there from GO, then NVIDIA will be loosing mega bucks because people wanting to switch to Windows 7 will want a new card, and this time they will only have one option > AMD.

As much as I like NVIDIA, well... their cards at least, I admit NVIDIA are going to get a black eye from this one, however I wouldn't under estimate NVIDIA, they are no doubt taking their time for a reason, and I think NVIDIA will come back and give AMD a black eye in return, it's the way the game is played :o.

*Yes I realise they weren't the best performers, but they were priced aggressively and the 3870 X2 did hold the top spot for a short while. They especially did quite well whilst Nvidia was struggling to get G92's out into the market initially.

The 2900xt isn't even that bad, it was still up there with the 8800gts 620mb I benchmarks, the problems started occurring when you added some antialiasing.

Hmmm... I wouldn't really base that as their 'high end', they always release a 'x2' now, and I have no doubt that NVIDIA will most likely, also release a 'GX2' of some kind.

When you think about it all those cards are, are just doubling the GPU, much like having them in xfire/SLI. For this reason I don't think it is worth worrying about competion between them.

However, I am guessing that AMD's 'x2' version will be out by the time NVIDIA release their cards, which could pose even more of a threat. As you could probably buy an 'x2' for cheaper than one of NVIDIA's new cards.
 
I wish people would stop making numbers up. We've seen now for a few gens that ATi price their cards $200 for an HDX850 and $300 for an HDX870.

Until we hear otherwise, these are the numbers we should look at. I remember being called a fool by stating the same thing about the 4850 and 4870 before they were released only for it to be true, not because I'm 'right' but because this is what they do.

This basically means that when the cards get released and shipped out to Europe and the UK, they'll be $200 for the 5850 + VAT and $300 for the 5870.

With the current exchange rates that makes:

5850 £121 + VAT (£139 inc. VAT@15%) or £166 inc. Privilege of buying from OcUK@20%.

5870 £181 + VAT (£208 inc. VAT@15%) or £249 inc. Privilege of buying from OcUK@20%.

Hopefully the exchange rate will have improved by the time they come out, I'm not sure when the VAT will be going back to 17.5% so I haven't factored that in.

With the better exchange rate we had when the 4800s came out, they were far better value, as far as I can remember it was about $2.05-2.10 to £1.

That's kind of how it's been already. The 4870X2 has been the same price as the GTX285 for some time now, I really don't understand why anyone would buy a 285 over a 4870X2 when they offer up to close to double the performance.

Amd runs around and knives NVidia in the face ... echoes the sound of humuliation...

ROUND 2:

NVidia revives picks up the AK47 and shoots .. "pow pow!!" headshots both ATi and the NVidia fanboys ... "multi kill..."

The 2900XT was a lot better than most people make out. The G92s were actually worse with AA than the R600. Initially the drivers were the issue with the poor AA performance on release, but they pretty much much completely sorted that issue down the line with improved performance from drivers.

Indeed, I found the R600 with later drivers a very good card. I had the three heatpipe stock HSF version and it wasn't even that loud!

nVidia want there to be as many fanboys as possible, they're the only people crazy enough to buy their overpriced cards when ATi offer a performance equal at a fraction of the price, as known as GTX295 costing 60-70% more money than an HD4870X2 for a few percent increase in performance.

Yeah just like the 5800 Ultra wasnt that bad, at least it did compete with the best ATI had available even if it did suck a little in later titles which made heavy use of shaders.

EDIT, the 8800GTS 640MB was actually a little faster, overclocked allot more as well.

If ati can release quick enough by the time nvidia get theirs out ati will be near to the refresh of the first 5 series cards so whatever advantage nvidia might have with their new versus the old ati could quickly be wiped out. One thing is for sure this is going to be a lot more interesting this time round and the competition should benefit us the customers which is all i really care about at the end of the day.

Not sure whether to wait and see what nvidia does first tbh..

My next card(s) will be for Doom 4 etc next year.. mainly, at least for raw horse power so i'm hoping ATi isn't far behind in open GL

but if people are thinking of spending £400 quid on cards then i think maybe its better to wait for nvidia and see how good their cards are first, but the bad thing means waiting and a potentially sky high price as usual.
 
ATI cards are not that far behind the better breeds oF nVIDA if not at all (about the same) as long as ATI make good reliable cards and keep to good prices they will still be in the game

you've just blown Nvidia's secret DX11 cards,
yet another rebranded 8800, with DX11 and called the GTX300 series :p

prices for the 5000's will be interesting, i'm contemplating an upgrade atm, windows 7, DX11.
Does this mean than DX11 cards can actually play DX10 games at a good frame rate? :rolleyes:
 
Not saying thats how it will be this time just thats how i have found it to be in the past personally i hope these cards will be as good on dx11 as anything else.
