I'm beginning to think I must be a loser for sitting in lane on the motorway for 20 minutes as opposed to jumping into the empty/faster lane and trying to barge my way back in after gaining considerable ground or before the empty/faster lane ends.

I'm sick of sitting there for what feels like days only to have imbeciles ramming their way in at the very last minute and nearly taking the front end of my car off. Whilst pushing the rest of the empty lane(s) into the hard shoulder as they can't stop in time.

Do you generally jump the queue or sit in lane and wait it out?

I hate it when people do this.

Typical example is the A13 appraoch into the blackwall tunnel. It cearly states "STAY IN LANE". The left lane is usually rammed with cars wanting to go into the tunnel. This is the lane I'm always in. The right lane is the lane you need if you wanted to continue past the tunnel. This lane is always empty. But there is always a tit who drives in the right lane, then last minute tries to barge into the left.

I get annoyed when people do this and do my best to block them out, but tbh you cant make them run into the barrier sadly, really annoys me, I do drive a white van so do it to other people occasionally :P

Are they ramming in or just merging in turn?

Hes talking about the arse bandits that when on say a dual carriageway and there is a lane end sign in say 600 yards and everyone else is getting into the lane they are meant to and these people just carry on going in the empty lane right up until it closes then push in! royally narks me off!

Got a new job a few months ago and I'm having to suffer Glasgow's M8 during rush hour, which is where I'm coming from really. I'd never done any rush hour commuting previously so the idiocy I'm witnessing every other day now is crazy.

There's an inside lane which heads off the motorway but all the exec saloons, transit vans, blonde bints etc jump into it and right before it ends they stop dead in the lane and force their way back in.

I now find myself trying my hardest to block them out but it just causes more annoyance. I've nearly had my car hit 6 times over the past week.

Why would you all merge into one lane before it closes? Are you seriously saying you block people who wait until the lane closes before merging?

Seriously?

You seem to be who I'm talking about.

I do this because unlike the sheep who sit in the inside lane for 600 yards, I can actually read the highway code which quite clearly states you should merge in turn at the obstruction.

The UK doesn't understand "merge in turn".

Shame really, it seems we are a nation of below average intelligence when it comes to things like driving. It's not a difficult concept to grasp is it.

I won't draw the link between people who think its their duty to 'block' the lane and white vans with copies of The Sun in, because that would be snobbish and stereotypical..

if people who deliberatley pull out when everyone else has merged in and they drive right to the point where the lane closes then push in then yes I make every attempt to block them (depends on how stressed I am feeling at the time) I understand the whole concept of merge in turn its meant to be just that everyone merges gradually if someone trys to skip the queue then yea I will try and prevent them from skipping (not that I usually do because im not mean enough and always end up letting people in >.>)

and fox I have never once bought a copy of the sun ;) you see lots of truckers "blocking" lanes before an accident or obstruction because it DOES disrupt the flow when everyone else begins to merge 200 yards before obstruction and some people barge right to the end and push in.

Merge in turn means that everyone merges IN TURN - one after the other - at the obstruction. Blocking is dangerous - please stop doing it. You are not a traffic cop, you are just another arrogant van driver who thinks he owns the road yet is unable to comprehend a document as devestatingly simple as the highway code.

Rather one of those than a guy who can't read his highway code and instead creates an obstruction on the public highway because of his warped idea of whats 'right'.

If you want to enforce the law, become a traffic cop, otherwise mind your own business.

This part of the road illustrates my point:

glasgow_m8.jpg

Picture lane 1 and 2 full to the brim whilst lane 3 being full of idiots pushing in at the last minute, often very carelessly or without signal when they should've stayed in lane or got back into lane 2 about 4 miles up the road. They also hold up lane 3(the people actually trying to exit the motorway) and force them onto the hard shoulder.

edit: I know you can't see the hard shoulder in this picture but it's just slightly further up the road.
