Yeah, but, well, it might be closed beta, but its 3 weeks from release?
They've a week ago massively changed a fundamental way the game works in starting with energy rather than building it, its a positive change but ridiculously late in the game, and realistically it means almost every single power needs to be altered for power usage/gain which I can't imagine they've come close to doing yet. Nerfing several hugely overpowered sets, and increasing game difficultly dramatically, I can't see them getting anywhere near "balanced" by release.
THe thing that really does my head in, is nerfs, killing your character and taking the fun out of it sucks. Lotro got this right, very very well made to start with and very rarely is anything nerfed, mostly they simply buff one class to match the rest. IE if Hunter was overpowered, rather than make it worse to play, increase the other classes to match. I'd take that any day over constantly nerfing every good character you have. That winds me up no end, and huge fundamental game mechanic altering decisions like the power one being done 3 weeks from release screams to me it will be an unbalanced nerf fest for months to come.
But that aside, the problem is, I didn't find combat fun, melee alts bouncing around making girly noises with poor animations. Melee in COX, take martial arts, the moves were hard hitting, looked cool, didn't go on auto attack every 0.2seconds and the auto attack couldn't take down an enemy all on its own in a matter of seconds.
It just feels so SO far from finished, and even when finished, simply a badly designed game, but we'll see. I decided almost instantly into the closed beta on the 1st that I wouldn't pre-order, no changes have convinced me to change my mind so far. I'll try it again in the open beta but I think it will be a case of see how its doing in 2-3 months, let some nerfs, huge changes happen, try the trial and see if its any good.
