Had the car remapped today

be that as it may, im not that interested in the 330. I like my turbo power delivery so id really want the 335i instead.

No point settling for something you dont really want JUST so you have a rwd car. And it would have to be an m sport. Again, no point in settling for something you dont want just to get a RWD car, when as i discovered over saddleworth moor chasing toms e39 330i, having RWD isnt everything.

but RWD is the be it all or end it all on this forum

the extra torque was very hand today on the a17 back from norwich for overtaking all those lorries :D

Always amazes me how much power people think they need to overtake vehicles that are limited to a max of 56MPH (on the A17, they should be doing 40 on single carriageway & 50 on dual but never mind that) its much easier to sit back and wait for a chance to get past rather than sitting behind the HGV blind and then pulling out & unleashing all of that torque to surge past.....- I'm not saying that's what MrLOL does, just the average Joe car driver, anyway, glad you like it! ;)

As proven on Top Gear, RWD car can't corner without the arse end stepping out. Just as their unbiased tests prove all FWD cars have understeer to some degree. I'd take an understeer anyday over a dangerous oversteer.

Oh wait, they do that to exaggerate things..

the phrase i believe is T.E.D.

Time exposed to danger. Less time spent on the wrong side of the road the better ;) Crucially, the quicker you can overtake, the smaller gaps you can use to overtake.

stock front mount at the moment.

Courtenay have an uprated one in development due next month

should enable the car to cope with uprated turbo as currently stock setup cant cope with it and heat soaks too quick.

Believe they are looking at a sustainable 320bhp with uprated turbo and FMIC.

I've not seen the stock one. Guessing it can't be that small as you've got good power with the standard unit.

Has anyone tried any other FMIC like the Frontera 2.8 unit. That's good for around 350BHP.

no

but both courtenay and thorney are developing their own. But having said that, they did the same for the astra. No word on any other FMIC fitting the astra either yet.I would assume if one fitted we'd know by now ?

I guess it just develops over time as people get older and grow out of little FWD hatchbacks and stuff. It's the same at other motoring forums as well, not just here.

yes, RWD is better, but FWD isnt terrible, you've just gotta learn its limits and learn how to control it. I mean look at the DR.com video with the FWD oversteer/drifting.

Why theres big over exaggerations from both sides i dont know. FWD isnt going to understeer into a tree, and nor is a RWD gona spin everytime you go around a mini roundabout. Unless of coarse people cant drive.

And anyway, grow out of little FWD hatchbacks? Is a vectra a little FWD hatchback? (this thread is about LOL's Vectra afterall)

Little FWD Hatchbacks?

Into Barge like exec cars?

RWD can offer something to a purist on a track, but for road use, especially in British weather conditions, FWD is in most cases superior for safety and predictability.

Its like saying we all grow out of front engine and prefer mid-engine as it gives a better balance... Its something that 99.99% of drivers will not ever notice for road use. If you do notice it, its 99.99% certain some form of "over commitment" to a corner has been made which has an impact on safety.

I used to drive like that so I am not looking down my nose here, my 7 can corner pretty much as fast as anything, but I couldnt drive it like that on the road without putting mine and others lives at risk.

There is a time and place for the benefits of RWD and the place does not involve public roads. There is way too much snobbery about it on Motors forums.

I got rid of my Co BMW and got a Company Golf GTI penny for penny, it was infinitely better than a RWD BMW, and a lot better than some priced way above it. I could equally have gone for a Focus RS, but preferred the DSG box for distance driving. The track day at castle combe was fun before I got made redundant!
