I'm happy with the RAC and the level of service they provide, much better than green flag and the AA.

Unfortunately I've run out of lives thanks to being stuck in this POS Volvo as Nissan still haven't delivered the new windscreen I ordered in April, so need to get a new breakdown policy to last me until January.

Is there any company out there that will do a 6 month policy rather than a 12 month?

Given that a 12 month fully comprehensive breakdown insurance policy with all the bells and whistles comes in at approx £35 for the year, why not just buy a year? :p

Green flag quoted me £130

Where are you getting a fully comprehensive policy from that cheap? One that includes home start and a hire car.

All over moneysupermarket, i think mine was around £35, and it includes the above, hotels, and all the fluff.

I *think* mine is with rescuemycar.com, underwritten by one of the big names.

Edit: Just did a quote for a 1999 car covering 25,000 miles (as mine does approx, usually, did more last year) and with ALL the fluff it comes out to £40 ish, so its gone up slightly since i took mine out. Prices of £30 seem available for the same details if you remove some of the extra's.

rescuemycar.com quoted £130 for the Lolvo and it doesn't include home start on their "comprehensive" policy

Really need personal cover for both me and my GF, what with me having two cars and her having one.

I think its safe to say you wont be getting that new windscreen.

Apparently it's in Holland right now.

What bank are you with? A lot of the accounts with extras include breakdown cover - my gold natwest account does and the santander reward account does too. 15 and 10 quid a month respectively

Premium Bank accounts are a massive, massive con. You can buy AA Cover for £9 through Quidco at the moment, why pay £15 a month for a bank account to get it included?!

They're only a con if you don't use them. If you can get AA cover for 9 quid, surely that's the answer then?

For me, id struggle to get breakdown cover, mobile insurance and annual travel insurance for 15 quid a month although I'm switching to the cheaper Santander account and changing my contents insurance to cover my mobile

No, they are a con because you can get everything they offer for less elsewhere.

Well I've already found you Breakdown cover for 9 quid, I just paid £42 for annual travel insurance inc USA, so that leaves you over £100 saved per year to buy phone insurance with.

Premium bank accounts are a con.

Will look into it I guess! Who was the travel insurance with?

It was always about convenience to be honest

I must admit i lump premium bank accounts in the same bucket of ****** as credit card protection and extended toaster warranties.

Even worse now that we are in the days where the bank pay you to have an account with them :p Cant believe you fell for it iaind, at £15/month, thats £20/month different to a halifax reward account.

Only small amounts of money in the scheme of things, but its still £240/year for benefits worth..less than half that. Its the principle of it all.

The thing is, it's simple. OK - £9 per month for breakdown, maybe a fiver a month for mobile phone insurance - for the hassle of sourcing everything elsewhere, there's really not a great deal of money to be saved
