I don't plan on living there, Jesus.

Pay for the trip yourself, and either open a savings account with the £500 for your daughter or put it buy for christmas......its only around the corner !

And i tell my mother?

Oh i know, i stole her money.

You don't really want to take the money, but you don't want to use it for better means - everyone has given you good, plausible ways for you to save face and also benefit from your mothers kindness.

MAKE YOUR MIND UP.

Also, how the hell is it stealing her money, if she gave it you?

Rich

Of course you should take it.

Your mother is giving you (her son) a decent sum of money to treat you and her grand daughter, I would say regardless of your financial status that is a bloody nice thing to do.

I mean did she ever say "This is ALL YOU CAN SPEND!"? because as I see it she is just giving you the cash so you can enjoy yhe weekend even more, taking the money will do 3 things.

Make the weekend better
Let your daughter have an even better time
Let your mother feel that she has done something nice for you and her

It's win, win, win.

My suggestion is this, take the money, go nuts but let your daughter pick up a gift for your mother as a thank you, this will go a LONG way towards thanking her for it.

And i tell my mother?

Oh i know, i stole her money.

How is it stealing ? i'm suggesting rather than blowing £500 on your daughter in one big spending spree. Put it into an account where it may gain interest and your daughter can learn the value of saving.

Or spending it on her in 6 months time....

Either way its still going to her which was your mothers intention.

Done.

close thread.

Well, why not be constructive if you know so much about 49 year olds.

Is that the best you could come back with?

Your mother obviously wants to contribute to your daughters happiness, you have seen this as an attack on your pride / ability as a father and do not want to accept.

HOWEVER

Mother pays for weekend away - Mother feels happy to have given her granddaughter and son a weekend away to bond and relax, while on the other hand you are £500 better off to put toward daughters future / education / christmas / a big screen TV.

You have made your mother happy. You make your daughter happy. Your wallet is groaning with extra mullah.

I fail to see why it's such a big issue.

It's not, other than the fact that i do not need the money.

Well you've made this thread about it for some bizarre reason. I know you don't need the money, but your Mother doesn't know that does she? She is trying to be nice and give you a gift to you and your daughter.

Three options here then:

1) Ring your Mother and say thank you very much for the gesture, but it really isn't needed - but it's great to have you wanting to help (Even throw in some lies about "Tickets are already booked / Hotel already booked so it's not needed if you want to).

2) Keep the money, and save it for your daughters future happiness.

3) Realise that grandparents often want to help out in there grandchildren's future and that there is nothing you can do about it. Be glad she is willing to help! My grandmother doesn't even speak to me, and I only have one.

Rich

your mother thinks you need the money for some reason, its not about grandma and child its about you and yer daughter.

refuse or accept that decision depends on you and yer mother, is she the type or you think the type where you don spend a lot of time with yer daughter ? if so yer mother is trying to be helpful, if you are the type that spends a lot of time wih yer daughter then yer ma wants to make it more special.

either way is a dangerous situation imho in terms of not hurtng peoples feelings.

but also a fantastic way in making the week / weekend bettter. undoubetdly yer ma, wants you an yer daughter to have a great tim,e and probaly imho wants no recognition as to why, in which case accept and enjoy.

however if shes the type to dwell on it because no offence you havnet been there and are seen as only having a good time because yer mother would pay for it, then refuse, point blank in front of yer daughter and explain why.

without knowing you and knowing yer mum and why its hard to give advice as tbh you could be a tw@t or you could be a brilliant dad but without knowing that hows anyone supposed to give you the correct advice ?
