Core i5 2.66GHz vs i7 2.66GHz review!!

So would the i5 be able to achieve oc of 4.0ghz, like the i7?, if so I'm guessing the temps at these oc speeds will be nowhere near as high as an i7 chip??

Yes 2x8 is obviously more than enough, so can anyone say what is looking like the best value chip at the moment I5?

I'll want an Asus motherboard aswell.

So basically you don't have the "fake" extra four CPU's that the I7 gives you (in other words you press CTRL+ALT+DEL and look at performance, and in I7 there are 8 CPU bars, in I5 only the four)?
Those fake 4 cores increase my encoding performance (using Sony Vegas) by around 30-40%. They may not be good for games, but that is down to poor game design rather than poor CPU performance. For people who want the best available performance (at a price), i7 is still the way to go.

Am I the only one that does not see how i5 is better than i7?

I'm definitely going to go with i7.

Power consumption isn't that important considering graphics cards drink power.

i7 is faster, has 1366 socket - which will be the future for top spec processors, and I don't think it will be that much more expensive, i7 is already pretty cheap.

It will be interesting to see the OC results of the i5. I suspect with their lower power requirement that will clock higher than 920. If thats the case then this will be the one to get if your primarily a gamer.

Think I will wait and see what i7 on 1156 is like before deciding now. Had planned a 1336 920 4GHz beast as a last blowout games rig, however will just have to wait now

Even with New gfx cards? there is a difference of 3-5% from P45 to x48 so i am not sure ur statement holds true especially as gfx cards become more powerful. Also, it just seems like a bit of a step back from the current hardware (or rather not taking the next logical step forward).
