World of Warcraft Cataclysm Thread

Well I must admit, I dont play WoW anymore, but this looks like a very good expansion for keeping the game fresh for those who have played for a long time. Can see this expansion selling really well and almost being a "reboot" of the game. Should help the game keep going with a huge population for several more years.

I wont be going back to WoW, but for those of you still playing it (or going back for the expansion) looks like you will have plenty there to enjoy.

This is like a major overhaul of the game, way more than a normal expansion.

However, I can't see where they can go after this...

Anywhere they want really. I would expect another expansion sometime after this one, probably to take the character level to 100, more hero classes, maybe some more new races. Possibly taking away all race restrictions on classes so that any race can be any class.

They have the emerald dream left, they also have the elemental plane, they could make something out of the new horde and garrosh reaping havoc.

In cataclysm they have shown the Earth, Fire and Water elemental planes will be available in this expansion, so the Emerald Dream seems the most likely for the one after this.

Damn didnt see that on the crappy free stream, thanks for the information.

Damn, i feel sorry for those Age of Conan devs who kept saying how an expansion should not be just a new area but expanding on the existing areas. They said it first, Blizzard will probably be more successful with the idea :(

Well, I for one welcome our new Worgen overlords....

/brockman.

I really did not see some of those changes coming in, I haven't played WoW since around the time of BC and even then I was a very casual player.

There seems to be a lot more involved in this expansion rather than just a "now you can also go here" 'tack on'. It's nice to see the new classes do have some storyline behind them also, and the changes to the well known zones will make for interesting exploration :D

Might even have to have a re-subbing spree for this :)

edit: With flying mounts- people will be finding Ironforge airport so easily now :p

How will players who do not buy the expansion be seeing Kalimdore/Eastern Kingdoms etc? Surely they be seeing the destruction also or is this a way of forcing an expansion purchase out of players?

Cataclysm goes out to all players. Whether or not you actually buy the boxed expansion, you're getting the new, ruined version of Azeroth via a patch anyway. The old lands, quests, and all that stuff are going away. Cataclysm gets you the new zones, guild advancements, new heroic dungeons like the Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep, and some other stuff. But if you were wondering who gets to experience the new sundering of Azeroth, the answer is: everyone.

I quit and gave away my account a month or two ago...when this comes round I might just resub, if nothing else but for the nostalgia, and also looks like I'll be able to do stuff completely new.
From the trailer it seems they've taken hints and at least sharpened up textures in the old world with the revamp; like they did with WotLK and some TBC/Vanilla areas.
