Im in the market for a blu ray player for my 32" 1080p lcd telly, i use blu ray on my current pc (spec in sig) on a 24" 1920x1200 lcd monitor, got the blu ray bug and fancy adding a player to my telly downstairs, i know i could do it through the pc, but it would be a lot of hassle moving the pc down to the telly, hence im after a stand alone player for the telly, any advice would be much appreciated.:)

All much of a muchness unless spending mega money I reckon, we've got a Panasonic BD60 and it plays Blu Rays, DVDs, so ticks all th boxes for me lol.

If you've got the budget (£500-£600), Oppo BDP-83 all the way. Bear in mind this is now fast becoming the new reference blu-ray player, and is on an par with players 4x that price in terms of AV performance. It also offers something extra in that it supports both SACD and DVD-Audio multichannel audio formats, which I appreciate isn't a selling point for too many people but it is for me... oh, and with a very straighforward mod it becomes multi-region for both DVD and Blu-Ray... :D

They're US release only at the moment and can only be imported, with a lightweight version due for release in Europe soon; the equivalent to the current US one is supposedly coming out here late Q4 2009/early Q1 2010, although rumour has it they may not be built using Anchor Bay's VRS video processing chips.

They are currently being imported by one particular distributor who's getting loads of business; they are (he is) offering standard players, premodded player and DIY mod kits (basically a replacement optical interconnect ribbon).

Being keeping an eye on it for quite a while now and it's just a matter of time before I take the plunge..

Don't go for anything expensive as you won't be able to tell the difference on a 32" TV anyway. Aim for a unit in the <£250 price bracket. Or a PS3 Slim!

i have a Sony BDPS350 and it plays blu rays and dvds fine, i got it at xmas so got 6 free blu rays with it. cost me £200 but its around for £180 ish

Awesome, £50 below what was expected for the UK release.. ;)

Looks to be an identical player to, contrary to what I'd been reading up until a week ago. Hopefully it can be modded in the same way for multi-region, so an extra £70 ontop.

Also, hope it comes with the Oppo bag like it does in the states. Want my money's worth.. :)

Just read that. Great news on the shopping bag front (their demo model came in one).. :D

Find it odd that they're probably not going to have the review for this out until the December edition, 3 months after it's release.

I think they're haggling with Oppo on a price for the review lol, if you catch my drift:D.
