Valencia - Spain - EUROPEAN Grand Prix 2009 - Race 11/17

whats the maths of him doing it? i know its technically possible.

doesn't he have to win the rest of the races with the brawn and RBR cars blowing up in each race.

Looking at it another way, assuming Bernie's medal scheme had come in:
Button - 6 wins
Vettel - 2 wins
Webber - 1 win
Hamilton - 1 win

Lewis would need to win 6 of the next 7, which looking at the way things are going doesn't look impossible. Then again the way this season is going I'm expecting some other team to jump to the front before the end of the season.

Finally. The message has got through that racing without KERS is like walking into a gunfight without any bullets in your gun.
I seem to recall that next year there is in fact a "Gentleman's Agreement" that the teams will be "walking into a gunfight without any bullets in their gun" ;)

Hey. No man likes to walk around without a loaded gun ;)

And given that McLaren and Ferrari have a car which is working nicely with KERS, to give up the device, without it being made illegal (which KERS is not), simply on the strength of a gentleman's agreement, seems little outrageous to me.

If I were a driver who is making good use of KERS (as Hamilton is), I would definitely put in a strong request to my team boss, to include KERS in the 2010 car...even if the other teams don't like it.

I remember earlier this year, Ferrari fought tooth and nail against Brawn's diffuser. They resorted to calling Ross Brawn a lot of names. Brawn kept the diffuser as it wasnt illegal (just as KERS isn't), so I dont see why McLaren or Ferrari should give up KERS, especially given that the device is giving them a massive advantage and is perfectly legal.

There is some talk of Toyota developing a more sporty roadcar which could be helped by promotion through F1....

oooOOOoooOoooo really?!

It better be good! None of this new school Celica/MR2 nonsense. I want something a la SUPRA or CELICA GT-4!

Those cars where the bizzle

OT, tomorrow should be interesting. I'm betting Raikkonnen will be the man to watch... (as in he is going to screw over something/someone).

So, any news on what updates the Brawn cars were running today?

In fridays practice session there were talks of one car running an old setup..

It looks like the McLarens are genuinely quick, now that both drivers are showing pace. As for Hamilton - I've said it before and I'll say it again - he is the real deal and has a good chance to attack and break all the records that were set by MS. Even better is the fact that he is British. Traditionally, the Brits tend to be a little soft when it comes to being ruthless and this is where they let themselves down. However, Hamilton doesnt suffer from this problem.

Why blowing off Hamilton? Kova was quicker in quallies (depending on the source used) although he wont be in the race and as I said in the last race the mclaren of hamilton wasn't just up the front because of the messiah. The car is genuinely quick or the quickest on certain tracks. As shown by where Kova has been. Hamilton has done nothing out of the ordinary by the pace of the car and Kova. It was the fastest car in the race he binned it on the first corner as well. That pace has nothing to do with the 2nd coming and all to do with the ability of a super rich team to copy and turnaround parts for the car.

You say you dont like playboys and keep banging on about Button yet apart from his first year at Benetton there is nothing to prove he is in that lifestyle. Perhaps you would like to furnish us with all the evidence you have to prove his playboy lifestyle over say someone like hamilton, or will you like the last time I asked just ignore it?

I doubt there is a driver on the grid that has worked on their fitness as hard as Jenson. What exactly would you like Jenson to do that he hasn't been doing already. SO what he took part in a triathalon, you also cannot prove that Hamilton has had more or less time in the sim than Button. How about I say Button has spent more time in the sim than hamilton this year, go on prove me wrong.

There's been more than enough pictures of Hamilton larking about in the sun as well. MS used to play football matches during the F1 season, are you questioning his commitment?

You or none of us have any evidence to say how commited any of them are unless a team boss tells us otherwise.

Taking into account fuel weights, the BBC Sport fuel-adjusted grid is as follows:

1 Rubens Barrichello lap 19
2 Heikki Kovalainen +0.216secs (lap 16)
3 Lewis Hamilton +0.249 (lap 15)
4 Jenson Button +0.291 (lap 18)
5 Sebastian Vettel +0.507 (lap 16)
6 Nico Rosberg +0.540 (lap 20)
7 Mark Webber +0.610 (lap 20)
8 Kimi Raikkonen +0.614 (lap 18)
9 Fernando Alonso +0.871 (lap 17)
10 Robert Kubica +1.114 (lap 17)

expected hamilton to be heavier, i still think he will pull away with enough of a gap to negate the extra fuel of brawn. that first lap of hamilton in q3 was a sighter.

Anyone wanna guess on...
P1 , 2 , 3
Chances of the McLarens tripping over each other tomorrow?
Chances of there being another new Ferrari driver at the next race?

I say.... the top 3 will be made up of brawns and mclarens, prolly 2 brawns tbh. The real question tomorrow will be how long the tyres last. Hopefully we will finally have a chance for the brawns to excel once again.

I reckon the Brawns are going to have a crap start as usual, meaning loads of people pass them, so they are stuck in traffic and slow, wasting their extra fuel, allowing the McLarens to get away.

Probably.. :)

This stage of the season the Brawns won't really be giving two ****s what the maccas are doing as long as both teams are taking points off red bull.

They will be happy not to push hard and take 2nd 3rd with a macca winning if a red bull is further down.

hamilton and kova will pull away from the group, kova will then come off the pace and KR RB SV will catch up with him only to have him keeping them back why LH pulls away even more

LH will win unless he makes a big mistake or gets a flat tire. can see KR gettin a podium this week to

my guess will be LH KR HK for podium

It takes a good car to win races and titles. But it takes a great pilot to get the job done. Heikki doesnt have that ability. Hamilton does. Its similar to when we saw Button win 6 out of 7 races, during which time Barrichello was getting beaten.

The mark of a great driver is he who consistently beats his team- mate. Hamilton has been consistent in doing this. He even matched Alonso in 2007, when Hamilton was in his debut year. Thats pretty damn impressive given that Alonso was the reigning World Champion at the time and at the peak of his powers.

I know that you claim the likes of MS wasnt actually as good as his statistics make him out to be, but the driver makes a massive difference to the way the entire team functions. Ferrari are now finding this out and desperately need a talisman who they can focus their efforts on.

Hamilton is ALL that, if only because he has totally decimated his team-mate and matched Alonso in 2007. In the current field, who else can boast this record?

Yet again you have skipped over the playboy question and how you know Hamilton puts in more work than Button. I want evidence of how you know this. I want evidence that Jenson isn't putting the effort in compared to others you haven't offered that. Which is no suprise because the stuff you have said like it's fact you cannot back up.

In comparison to his team mate hamilton hasn't dominated Kova, especially in qfy and this is also in a team where Hamilton gets everything and kova gets it when they can be bothered.

Ferrari don't need a talisman they just need a good driver that still gives a ****. Currently they have a chimp who cares and once great driver who should have been sacked last year. Alonso will win many more titles if and when he goes there.

Hamilton did well to match alonso in 07 but I don't think that tells the full story of what was going on at mclaren without wanting to get into all that again.

I reckon the Brawns are going to have a crap start as usual,

rubens will do his usual muck up start then anti-stall to kick in and him to eventually get away and ending up in 11 or 12th by first corner.
hamilton to lead by first corner and win comfortably.
kova to slowly drop off the pace and finish 4th.

1st hamilton
2nd webber
3rd raikonnen

It will be interesting tomorrow, can't wait..

I can't actually really think of a solid prediction, I think it's LH's to lose, and there is a chance HK might actually nab a win.. there is a large element of luck and response to pressure..

RB is the man to watch though, he's got the bit between his teeth, and he's certainly on the pace for a win or certainly the podium.

I do agree that as much as I like Button, when he's not got a car that's capable for him, he does tend to struggle.. He's not quite the rounded driver that is a true hallmark of a world champion, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong, and this is a crucial race to do that in!..
