They have to be open to drink from though. ;):p:D

Damn, I miss that car.... :(

IIRC It is illegal to have an open container of alcohol in the front seats of a car, that includes passengers.

Nope, that's US law. As someone has already suggested, in this country it would fall under Due care and Attention. You could expect a major sense-of-humour failure from any police who found you.

It beats me why you bought that horrible E36 when E38's are available for that money frankly.

My e36 cost me £900 plus my pretty shagged Mondeo, that hardly puts me back in reasonable e38 territory imo, not to mention parts are considerably cheaper for the e36, and if I was to have another e38 having tried the 728i,it would have to be, from a point of "been there try a different one",a 740i or 750i both of which are not viable for me at the moment unfortunately.

Whilst I prefer the e38 to the e36 (hardly surprising) that does not mean that in anyway I am unhappy with the e36, in many ways, its the car I should have bought instead of my 728i if I'm honest, horrible is not how I'd describe it at all.

I've had it 6 mths thus far, its not broken (yet!) and is currently averaging over 30MPG and I don't regret swapping the Mondeo for it one bit! :D

I'll have another e38 one day, thats for sure.

The law on "no open container in the vehicle" has been correctly identified as a US law.
There is no such law in the UK.

How many times have you seen people driving while smoking, eating or drinking?
Drinking alcohol whilst driving is quite legal so long as you are not being dangerous on the road and you're not over the blood alcohol limit as you drink it.
The police do not stop everyone drinking from a can/bottle or eating an apple.
The fact you were drinking from a alcohol container may well get you pulled - whereas if your container was a can of coke you probably wouldn't.

Well sometimes I drink or eat whilst driving. If I am thirsty whilst driving I get a drink. Never been a problem before.

Can you imagine a day when it is against the law to drive whilst eating or munching on something ?

Certainly it isn't alchohol, just normally Diet Coke (hope that isn't a competitor)

I guess if you had some sort of dialysis machine in the car to which you were hooked up, you could drink like a lord and still remain legal. Maybe we've identified a niche in the drunk driving market.

Always thought that open container things was an American law and had no bearing here, haven't drank in cars much, last time was me and my mates doing shots of sidekick while my other mate drives, on the way to a gig, lol.

If only. Alas, driving while being dialysed is frowned upon also :p

However I have comanufactured a beer pump which, ironically, plugs into a cigarette-lighter socket. It enables handsfree drinkage via use of a tube from a platypus (drinking container for hikes), for all your (legal) needs..
