My 360 has turned up :S

Wow!

Can't believe you're suggesting deliberately borking a machine to get it replaced for free! I'm not being naïve & know that this probably happens a lot - but should you really be even suggesting it as a possibility ?!!

Good isn't it?
And people wonder why Sony stopped their Continuous Play service.

360 owners wouldn't have to purposely RROD their systems near the end of the warranty period if the consoles were reliable. I hardly think that 3 years is an unreasonable time frame for a piece of hardware to live. The reason they do it is out of fear that it goes past the 3 year warranty period, then dies, leaving the owner with a repair bill.

It's perfectly feasible to RROD it near the end of the warranty. It's not as if the majority of Xbox owners don't fork out £40 for new releases and £40 a year to use Xbox live on top of DLC and extra accessories. I think they pay enough, I don't see why they should pay again for a piece of hardware that still has technical issues that aren't the end users fault.

I know the argument, but at he end of the day it's basically fraud.

Not really. Microsoft offer a service for products that are affected by the RROD. The product that they are sent has the RROD, so is therefore covered by the warranty. You aren't getting anything better than the product you sent off. It's not the same as, for example, throwing your laptop down the stairs, then claiming off the home insurance to buy a better one. Although I do understand where you're coming from.

But it is basically fraud. I don't think the definition of fraud means that you are necessarily getting something 'better', it means that you are making a gain from illegal activities.

Deliberatly borking a machine before you think it might do it itself is surely just as bad - you're costing the company money by illegal means, therefore defrauding them?

You're right then. I think I confused myself between things being illegal or unethical. It may be illegal, but I meant to make the point that it isn't unethical. Duh. :(

That comparison is the same as setting your house on fire for an insurance payout 'because you're covered for it'. Just because it's covered doesn't mean you can force it to happen.

So that's not okay to do, but what is okay is that Microsoft sell consoles that have hardware issues?

If it could be proved that MS sell products with the intention of them ******* up within a set amount of time, then they're liable. But that won't happen in all honesty.

I cant see 175watt anywhere so it must be one of the old crappy ones :(

now this is a new machine does that mean my 3 year warranty starts from scratch or continued on the old one ?

Mine is the same one i bought at launch and i have never had an issue with it, just play it and if it breaks worry about it then. All of this inspecting circuit boards to work out if its a Malcolm, Brian or a Falcon rubbish is daft.

Agree. I sold my original 360 to buy a PS3 (couldn't really justify having both machines!), but never had a problem with it.

Hiya again guys :)

MY CRT TV doesn't support 60Hz. I'll mainly be using the 360 with my monitor when I get a VGA cable, but in the meantime, is there any way to let me play

Not all games need 60hz, does your monitor have a hdmi port? You could always use that, or are we on about something completely different because I haven't read the whole thread. :)

At the moment I'm using it on a CRT which doesn't support 60Hz. Is there any way to get round this restriction? (ie play 60hz games at 50hz)

I'll be using this with my monitor when I buy a VGA cable, but not for a few weeks :)
