HI
Just recieved 2nd 4890 to crossfire and I am stumped.

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard.

I have one already installed in 1 blue graphics slot

Can I fit the other one in next to it in the other blue slot.

NO. There is no room what so ever. I even just took off the plastic cover
from the fan on GPU 1 and even then they are squashing together.

Am I missing something - thanks guys

Have you checked which slots are the PCI-E slots?

Might sound like an easy mistake but just double check you have the right slots :)

Hi

Just looked at that mobo pic on the net, does that have 3 Pci express slots?, if it does what about the orange port at the bottom of the board?

EDIT - lol, just thought....the crossfire bridge wouldnt be long enough would it....I have had a long day!

How do you mean there is no room? Can you take a picture?

Looking at a photograph of the GA-EX58 board, there is enough room between the slots to have two graphics cards in crossfire.

the orange slot is too near the PSU - i dont have permissions for pics.

There are 2 blue ones PCI-16 I think the cards touch however on the back of the GPU's there is a black l shaped metal lump? I can see that if that came off i could fit it in

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you don't have permissions for pictures?

On these forums? You could just upload it to somewhere like photobucket or imageshack and post the link to it.

All modern ATi cards are made to be able to crossfire with others.

If you manage to slot them into the adjacent blue PCI-E slots, you could end up with a temperature problem.
EDIT: It should work though in those two.. The ports should be spaced to accomodate the dual-slot size of your 4890s

Is there thing you can do with that PSU to free up space under the Orange port? :( Never seen a setup like that myself, I'm running a system at the moment with the PSU at the bottom but at the front.

EDIT 2: I have no experience of it myself, but you may have hit upon something. You could use the x4 port (the smaller orange one). IIRC the card should still fit in, just not using all of its connector pins. I dont know how well crossfire would work, but it should give you a working solution for the time being..

EDIT 3: uugh just made the same mistake as above poster with crossifre connector..

Ok so if I got some space I could use that ornage slot. But isnt that a slower slot - isnt it best for 2 pci-16. What If I pull the metal lumps off the back off the GPU?

Other wise I need a new case right? With the PSU somewhere else - this is antec 900.

I'm suspecting that due to them being non-reference cards, there's been a mess up in their design.

As has already been said, ATi design their cards to be used in crossfire. The worst that would happen would be that they're just very close. The fact that they're obstructed says a fault to me.

How about taking the current card out, putting the new one in its place and putting your old one in the second slot?
