Aye you must use fully synth or you will start to get oil deposit buildup.

If you open up the oil filler cap and look at the metal if its got loads of black sludge on it you have problems, not a huge problem in the UK but some people have had it.

Front control arms on mine have just gone the proper full kit is £345 i've just finished fitting this myself.

Best bit it your car is now due a cambelt and waterpump change, thats another £400 down the drain mine is due at 120k.

I never fail to be amazed at what people are prepared to pay for jobs like this. £345 just for a pair of front arms? £400 for a cam belt and pump change? It's hardly a tricky job on these.

Spending £3k in two years to keep a relatively new VW Passat on the road should be made a crime.

Thats the parts prices.

He's under the illusion its some sort of road racer the amount of money he's spent tuning it :p

Erm no, do you know how complex the B5 platform front suspension is?

The cambelt / waterpump / new fluids and aux belt changes is around £370 all in iirc, you need to remove the whole front end of the car.

They weren't new were they. There's sensible and then there's being so tight that you buy second hand consumables.
