just wondering if it a good time to build a rig

currently on althon xp 3200 barton, 2gb ram, 6800gt 256mb
don't laugh! i have upgraded around the cpu/motherboard/gpu

play games still good today (not SSE2 one though :D)

anyway, i have a onboard sata controller that not compatible with win7
and i can't disable it to run a PCI card, doh

i was trying o get this to last until pcie3 and usb3

i know there nvidia300 series and intel i7 32nm coming soon,
i was wonder if its worth holding out for usb3, pcie3 and the nvidia300 and i7 32nm?

is intel changing the socket type??

i want to make sure its future proof...

maybe a i7 920, x58 mb, 6gb ram, and hd4870?

something cheap...

what psu is required? i have a new hiper 580w (630w load) at the moment

Intel won't be changing the socket type for new i7 processors, and the i9 CPUs are due out early next year, 6 cores (12 with HT) and they still use the X58/1366 platform

whats the ETA on pcie3? and usb3?

don't want ot buy a 200 board just for it to be outdated in few months

PCIe has been pushed back until at least last year, and USB 3 will be backwards compatible so you don't really have to worry about that, if you really want it, no doubt there will be PCIe 1/4x addin cards.

Also the ASUS P6 X58 Premium has USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s support if you're willing to shell out a bit more.

I would say around the time of the I5 release would be good. The i7 920 is going to come down in price slightly to around £170 similar to that of the I5 750. The motherboard market will not vary much especially with the 1366 platform.
The I5 however will produce some cheaper options making a whole build cheaper. Although might not be quite the performance from an I7 but not far off. Would be a great PC.

That's my opinion anyway. Good luck
