Cheers, that's actually quite cool, but the xmb is a bit tricky to see, not exactly smart using white icons in front of that background!

I noticed that too, it's almost like it's zoomed in.

I did also notice that my PS3 was making a very loud noise just after the update for a few minutes, but after a minute or so it was back to being quiet. Very odd.

I thought it'd switched my PS3 into a lower resolution.:(

Also what's with the grey bars around the friends names, it looks rubbish now. Can you switch that off?

So far I don't like the general appearance of the update but i can't comment on functionality as I had to leave for work. I'll give it a chance before deciding on whether I like it or not but first impressions aren't good.

Actually, I'm not too sure about that. At least, not for some minor updates. I don't know about 3.00, but I managed to get online a while ago and didn't realise there was a firmware update until I went to system update. I know some are mandatory (or used to be), but I think they may have removed that, or only major updates are mandatory.
 
Have to say, my phat PS3 now has the new PS3 logo on startup and the orchestral tune-up is a damp squib in comparison. Sounds like half the orchestra has died or something. :D Love the new XMB though, which is a surprise as I thought I'd hate it. Larger text is good.
 
downloaded very quick a while ago , thoughts so far is that the xmb text and icons seem bigger , i dont like the big grey bars in the friends list , i thought it was better before?

the whats new thing is good , again though why have your last 3 played games in there ?

and lastly the clock with how many friends are online is nice feature
 
To be honest, I'm not over impressed - the grey box round the friends list is horrific, why do I want a PSN store button like every other menu option, unless the are planning an xbox alike copy to hdd why do I care about more than 1 game in the recently used list.

The clock spinning as the busy icon, stupid. Bigger text is awful, least let us control this, and the sparkly background looks tacky. Oh and no voice chat. Complete waste of a .0 update. Rotten.

Least they said there was a god of war 1 / 2 pack on the horizon.

I've noticed something that's possibly a big deal, in the video playback settings there's now mention of subtitle language for video stored on the HDD, so does it now support .srt files?!

It appeared after a little while for me. Very disapointing that the iPlayer link is just a link to the browser. Was hoping for a VidZone style app. :( I don't know how anybody could watch the iPlayer like it is.. the quality is so poor.
 
OOoooh i really like that KZ2 animated background. Where can i get that? Would also have loved an option to use images in the photos folder as a screensaver.. :(
