Eduardo banned for 2 matches

It's pretty simple surely? If you are caught in game you haven't managed to deceive anyone, ref's decision on how to call it. If you've dived purposefully and derived an advantage, especially one such as a penalty then you have deceived the ref and deserve to get hammered for it if it's picked up later.
I can't believe such a fuss is being made to try and defend despicable behaviour.

Surely the player's intentions are identical, why should one get banned for 2 games because of the referee and the other get a yellow card. The action and intention of the player is identical, so the punishment should be

And therein lies the problem. The next set of domestic fixtures it happened again.

Also in Scotland, I think that a Celtic player in fact got a second yellow for simulation.

This would be the most ridiculous thing, McGready(i think thats his name) got sent off for diving in his next game despite him being up in everyones face about every decision all game. There were other dives in the same game that just didn't get a penalty.

Against Utd Valencia dived, admittedly under a ludicrous challenge from Song that, ok only saw one replay but it looked like there wasn't actually contact but Valencia went down in exactly the same way Eduardo did, because if Song had made contact it would have been VERY nasty. He should have gotten booked for intent and a dangerous tackle anyway. Rooney, dived, he was 85% of the way down when contact was made, Almunia shouldn't have been there but that doesn't stop it being a dive.

Back to the Celtic game, Caldwell should have been sent off way before the end of the 1st half for about 5 cynical break stopping fouls each or which deserved a yellow, so how does he not get a two game ban after the game. McGready also did several cynical fouls throughout the game and also should have been sent off.

Diving ISN'T ruining the game, its poor refering, selective enforcement of the rules and inconsistant punishment. One classic example is referee's are willing to let bad tackles go early on but brandish yellow's much easier late in the game. How many games does a Macherano do 10 dirty fouls and only get a yellow in the final 10 minutes, while player X from team Y comes on as a sub in the 80th minute and gets a yellow for his first foul, just because its the part of the game ref's are handing out yellow cards like candy?

Speaking of Macherano, DM's in general get away with everything. Song should have been sent off in the Utd game for multiple bad tackles, niggling fouls throughout, Fletcher should have been booked for less bad but still niggling constant fouling. Macherano hacks people down game after game without a booking when the same tackle by any other player would be a yellow's most of the time.

I'd like to know where in the rule book it says if you're a defensive midfielder, you're allowed to commit more fouls than anyone else, just because people see you as an enforcer.

So why if he was caught in the game he'd only get a yellow, but after the game its now worth a 2 match ban. The only difference is the referee's competance, why does the punishment change.

People really are stupid over diving, how many penalties, clear as anything penalties aren't given, are defenders accused of being cheats for pulling shirts and hurling people down. Why's it perfectly fine for Carragher to get away with a dozen clear fouls that should be penalties every year, why isn't he being reviewed and given 2 match bans? Think it was the season before last he got away in about 5 games in a row, clear and ridiculous fouls, 1/2 against Arsenal a clear pulling down of Fabregas and I think RVP in the box, did the same in several other games. He should have gotten multiple cards, probably some red, and Liverpool should have lost several games because of conceded penalties.

Everton have had some ridiculous decisions given against them while playing Liverpool that cost games. When has Gerrard been given bans after games for diving, considering he's the worst offender in the league.

Why are people pretending only diving is cheating, but defenders doing constant fouls in the box isn't the same, nor DM's getting away with a dozen fouls a game.

Most players cheat to some level, I don't think theres any players that don't cheat in some way in most games. This sudden crusade, "divings ruining the game" is only being said by players/managers on the end of it in that game.

Did Wenger complain after the game about Caldwell being allowed to stay on the pitch, or the poor ref throughout, or McGready being a dirty cheating little ****.

Hell, we even have cheating in terms of managers and agents doing dodgey deals trying to get extra money. There isn't a single part of the game that isn't exploited by cheating, why on earth are people suddenly making such a huge deal of diving. Its a yellow card, as other fouls are, nothing more, nothing less. The number of penalites awarded to divers is nothing compared to penalties that aren't given for fouls that are commited in the area.

The whole officiating system needs an overhaul. Banning a player for cheating is a good first step.

One of the things I dislike the most is how passive referees are. Referees should be bosses of the pitch, but they way they shirk away from the players is embarrassing. I want to see referees commanding the players. Any back chat/abuse they get, yellow card to the player. Open your mouth again, another yellow card and you're off. Referees deserve respect, but they need to earn it. Currently they don't.

My god lol, i'd not seen it from that angle, that is shocking!

Indeed and the ****wits at UEFA wont do jack all about it...thats what angers me the most...anyhow hopefully they will be consistant against the likes of Drogba et al...who happens to be the worst diver i have ever seen.

What ban did Drogba/Ballack et al. get in the end for making an (abusive) circus of the game vs Barca last year?

I for one am glad about this & hope they follow it up by banning any other Divers. I actually stopped watching the game after seeing this.

Yes I support Chelsea & Yes I would want the same banning for any of our players. I come from an age where Footballers were Men not diving cheating Gayers.

But a pentalty wasn't given and if you would have seen the whole incident he doesn't try to claim a penalty. He's just a big girl :p

Eduardo didn't try and claim a penalty, he just stayed down. The only difference here is that the referee didn't give a penalty, hardly Eduardo/Torres' fault.

The Torres gif, he didn't dive for a penalty, he just had a tantrum mid air being the big woman he is. I do wonder though if the referee suddenly blew the whistle for a penalty would he get up and tell him that it wasn't a foul.

If UEFA were really interested in bringing this in and being consistent with it all. It would have been done ages ago. Yes, Eduardo shouldn't have done it but I think he's just fallen foul of some whining Celtic supporter who happens to be part of the SFA.

Would this be the ex-Rangers player Gordon Smith who 99.9% of Celtic fans believe is biased against their club? :)

Good, he's a dirty cheat, playing for a team full of dirty cheats.

I hope the next time they do it they round up all the Arsenal players with cattle prods, lock them in guantanamo bay and make them watch the sound of music for the rest of their natural lives.
