Why do people spell bought as brought?

There's one i'm noticing lately, not on this forum though from what i've seen. Instead of 'sure' it's 'shure' and i'm pretty sure it's not because of the headphones. Really gets on my nerves. :p

It's better than endlessly scrolling.

No way. Endlessly scrolling you don't have to keep clicking next page, it's easier to read because it flows better, you can multi-quote easier... and you have to do the same amount of scrolling when you have fewer posts per page anyway.

And on a slow connection there's absolutely no contest at all.

I think it's the limited vocabularies 'a lot' of people seem to have.
If you never use 'bring' because 'get' covers all, you won't know that 'brought' isn't an alternative spelling of 'bought'.

'get' doesn't cover all though.

eg.

he didn't bring his children up properly, and as a result their grammar is appalling.

The one I find most annoying is people using 'of' instead of 'have'

might of
should have
would have
.... etc

This one doesn't bug me much - it is a phonetic transcription of what many people say.

Brought on the other hand displays a lack of education/literacy that does annoy me.

Someone I know at uni used brought instead of bought the other day. But as a med student, she's neither uneducated nor illiterate

Yet obviously has a weird gap or two in her education/literacy for someone who has done well high school exams. This would be baffling if we didn't know that exam markers ignore spelling and grammar mistakes and are instructed to mark on comprehension and understanding.

Board instead of bored is one that bugs the crap out of me. Its not rocket science is it?

The one that annoys me is loose and lose.

Lose = you have lost something
Loose = not very tight, i.e my shoe lace is loose.

pretty poor explanation but it gets the point across.

I had to correct my manager on this yesterday and at least once a week:

There, their, they're

Another favourite is sight when they mean website.

The one that gets on my ***s is 'our' and 'are'.

I just don't understand how people can use the wrong word like that, I mean I didn't exactly get and A or a B in GCSE English but I've never once got my their, they're, there or our/are wrong or anything else like that.

Typos like teh? sure that's common among people who type fast and post first spell check later but bad word usage? No way.

Every now and again I do it, but generally catch the error before I send or post. I think sometimes I just have a little brain fart but I know the difference between them all.

It's a strange condition though, my mate is pretty intelligent and generally pretty good with spelling/grammar but he seems to get their/there/they're mixed up a lot.
