Whats the best way to take decent pictures of objects that are black? This shot I'm quite pleased with but it took me loads of shots to get it. Do you need a specialist setup, like a light tent to make it easier. I found the on board flash useless, it just highlighted every speck of dust and made it look rubbish.

I am borrowing a 40D for a wedding this Saturday, I also received the Canon 17-55 IS from LensesForHire.co.uk ready for the wedding, so I woke up my kitty who was asleep on my bed for a few test shots!

I NEED to upgrade my 400D, it feels like a toy now compared to this thing! I dread to think how I would feel if I got my hands on a 5D or 1D!!

It makes you feel like a real man, doesn't it :)

The 40D is actually very well built !

Comparing the 30D to my 5Dii, the 30D is no slouch at all, side by side (with grip) 30D passes the "toy" test. Yes, the 5Dii is better made but the 30D is quite excellent considering i paid 1/4 of the price for it !

Oh, a pic from a few months' back.

Had my first outing with my A200 last weekend, I quite like this shot after some processing:

The rest of the set is here, feel free to add C&C :)

I totally agree with MonkeyMikey, DSC01547 is a terrific shot. The exif says 1/160 sec - before seeing that I'd never have had the guts to go for such a low shutter speed with that kind of subject but it's given (to my eyes anyway) the perfect blend of motion and sharpness!

I take it you used a tripod?

Actually no, it was hand held but with stabilisation turned on :)

I was playing with the settings for most of the time trying different things out, but I was quite pleased with what I got at the end of the day. For a first go anyway :p

Shot of a friend performing... Not ideal conditions to shoot in at all! Uploading has mucked my colours around too. Blaarr.
