Most underated films list

How exactly is that underated? I would say it is totally 'rated' most people i know have seen and love it. Its a classic British comedy.

Well If I ask any of my mates have they seen it they will not have, maybe if you're a bit older you'd have seen it, but I'm 20 and wouldn't have crossed my mind to biew it.

The last korean film I watched was 'Old Boy'

Never again am I being tricked into watching one :p I fear the nightmares!

Old Boy is in my top 3, its amazing! I don't even see it as a violent film as such, sure there are some parts that are harder to watch, but its the plot that does it for me.

My other two favourite films would be Amelie and Lost in Translation. I know both are well known films, but it bemuses me as to how many people dislike LIT because 'nothing happens' thats why I reckon its under-rated, but its all personal taste.

Iron Giant is an hugely underrated, fantastic animation, great voice acting, brilliant adaptation.

Luckily my lad loves it so I get to watch it lots ;)

Is that because it's weird as ****?

The worst film i've seen this year by far. Sorry, my opinion might shock but I found nothing funny about it. Also, the security guard in the bathroom scene was just disturbing.

Hence why films are often classed as underated - they do not recieve universal appeal. I quite liked VBT but it was always going to appeal to a niche market.

I always wanted my entre to the MBTVB to be a critical analysis of a deleted French classic. But instead I feel a pull to this:

sull'agricoltura italiana: società rurale e modernizzazione - otherwise known as A Night at the Roxbury

I always liked 'fiddler on the roof'... and I guess it's underrated because not many people seem to have heard of it.

EDIT actually it got 3 oscars... but still, none of my friends have heard of it.

I found Cube fascinating when I first saw it. Cube 2 and Cube 3 kinda killed it though.

If you like Trainspotting/Human Traffic then try and get hold of Fat Pizza - an aussi take on the genre, cracked me up.

The Day After 1984, I believe. This is quite a decent movie it was only a TV release iirc but a very powerful movie which leaves you thinking. I only went back to it as i did a college piece on it a few years back.

Starsky & Hutch, the 2004 one with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

I've not know anyone over the years who has seen it, it's a bloody hilarious film.

Isn't that the guy from Old Boy?

In Bruges is good flick. saw that recently.

I love Escape from Ney work etc. I know they are cheesy but John Carpenter makes everything good with his directing style and music.

Big Trouble in Little China and any old John Carpenter movies!

this thread has turned into " what films do you like " does anyone know what underrated means?

I'd agree to an extent although the OP does ask for films that the mainstream media might have missed. However that aside there are quite a few recommendations that wouldn't fit in with what I'd consider a great film to be and less subjectively haven't been ignored in the least by the mainstream media.

To try and contribute positively though, might not be underrated as such but certainly underexposed to a wider audience is Le Conseguenze dell'amore - a singular Italian love story of a sort, it's doubtful that you'll have seen anything like it before and I do mean that in a good way.

Again not underrated amongst people who know of it but not shown to a wide enough audience is Once Were Warriors - a superb and brutal film about the troubles of a Maori family in New Zealand.

One that might be both underrated and not widely known is Poolhall Junkies, it's funny, there's a decent enough story and it has got some good performances including Christopher Walken, Chazz Palminteri and Rod Steiger in his last role.

The OP asked for both Underrated and Obscure. These are not mutually exclusive :/

Underrated would be an opinion based on liking a film nobody else did, whislt obscure might be widely accepted as amazing but just not widely distributed. Foreign films will naturally fall here for us, but not on a global scale.

It's not an easy topic!

What about the film Chopper (With Eric Bana)? That went straight to DVD in the UK to my knowledge and also went straight to the bargin bins in shops yet most people I know that have seen it, like it. Seems to be one that did well in Oz of course but not so well here yet it's slowly becoming more widely known.

Bana's performance was outstanding too, one of my fav films anyway.

Perhaps a good film that was underated that performed well on vhs etc, that we all know is The Shawshank Redemption. Failed in the cinemas but did well on vhs/dvd.
