well i was going to get something fast(911 with my dad, posted on here before) but i realised im gonna be in the army in a few months so i cant see the point im very attracted to older cars that are rear weel drive or have 4 gears they just good :p anyone got any suggestions ive slashed my budget to 3k (including insurance) since ive started saving for a house for when i come out of the army.

i want something thats cool but old since i think well looked after old cars look sick.

Honest suggestion?

Buy an old Mini. 2grand will get you a decent one and classic insurance is cheap even for new drivers. They are absolutely hilarious to drive.

yes there very appealing what year and cc would you get ?

since its my first car i dont want anything too flashy since i will probably get a scratch somewhere.

I'd also recommend a Mini - cheap, so much fun and everyone loves them. You can drive like an absolute **** and people just smile because it's fun and British.

I had a Mini Mayfair 998cc, racing green, F reg, my mum still has it and drives like a charm (as far as Mini's go). If you do get one just don't be surprised when you have to replace every wheel bearing every MOT :p.

Also, Mini parts are so cheap you can customise them on a shoestring budget no end - I kitted mine out with a ton of chrome.

Still miss flinging it round corners at 70.

Buy on condition, not age/model etc. Seriously. I didn't pick mine perfectly (could've done a lot worse) and got stung come MOT time with bits of welding, a new subframe, the like.

But 2k can get you a decent late early 90s cooper 1.3i or pretty much any non performance model from before then. Insurance is unbelievably reasonable, head to some classic specialists and you'll get quotes of well under a grand TPFT.

Things will break now and again but unless it's welding labour costs it won't cost much to sort out, and the sensation of speed is just fantastic, other cars at 70 feel so SLOW now!

Unfortunately mine is developing rust rust rust and there's not much I can doo :( One of the doors needs replacing and above the rear arches need ripping out and new metal put in :/ Hopefully will be able to keep it at home when I'm at uni and perhaps try and pick up the skills to do the welding myself!

Btw my wheelbearings are fine! They only get strained if you put silly spacers on to fit equally silly wheels ;)

This one looks really ill.

I entered this thread thinking it would be something sensible with someone with half a brain cell to assist.

Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Before I exit the thread, I'll just share the actual look that descended on my face after reading such travesties to the English language as
old cars look sick.

That is all....
