I've owned dead space since its release but due to other games and lack of gaming time, I never got round to putting in a good few hours on it. Anyway, the Mrs went away this weekend so I thought why not, got it installed and started playing Friday night. I must say, wow, I wish I had started the game sooner, now I can see what I've been missing.

Great graphics, genuine scares, catchy storey line, I may go as far to say, Its a perfect game.

I would love to see this turned into a film too.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've jumped and i thought FEAR was bad !

Great game, wasn't expecting it to be much after the rather disappointing demo, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of nice little touches and cool things throughout, it's very well made.

I might get dead space, not sure tried playing doom3 landed up under the desk

I m okay with painkillier and L4D and waw zombies (only cos I expect it) I don't like getting startled other wise I go under the desk :P

There is a film !?

Is it any good ?

I think it's great, pretty cool animation style and not bad characters, worth a watch.

I think it being animated is a good thing, no crap acting and shoddy CGI (re: DOOM).

If you havn't even tried dead space yet, you owe it to yourself to give it a go, it really is a very good game.

I found the game quite boring to be honest. It was just a standard "Oh look I'm walking down a corridor oh no something jumped out at me" FPS.

Another marmite game, similiar to Doom 3.

If you're looking for highly inovative and involved gameplay and nothing else, you'll be disappointed.

If you're looking awesome graphics, level design with a dense, claustraphobic and darkly foreboding atmosphere, but minimalistic yet adequate gameplay mechanics, then it's imho one of the best horror games to be released in a long time.

I too finally got around to playing this a couple of weeks ago. Looks and sounds great, enjoyable story... but too scary for me!

After a couple of hours of play (I'd play in short 20 min spells because that's all I could take) I had to give up on the game. Did the same with Doom 3 when I reached the Alpha levels and F.E.A.R. the first time I encountered Alma in a ventilation shaft :(

I know these games are quality titles, but there were just too many brown pants moments for my timid nature.

Hard to please?

Why not name somthing better in the same genre?

It is a quality game, maybe not great ,but quality nontheless.

Not really. I just fail to find this sort of game scary.

I'm not saying it was a bad game, it's just that it didn't seem to have much going for it beyond the 'scary' factor.

And a better game in this genre? AVP2 :p

Never played AVP2 so can't agree or disagree, but DSpace got 9.0 in some reviews, and i ain't seen that high a score for AVP2.

But it is all down to personel taste, so if you liked AVP2 better than DSpace good on you.:p

I liked Dead Space but it did get repetative. But don't most games?.

Its all about graphics these days, ie if it looks good it will sell.

There are a few exceptions, ie the Stalker series, but not many, but then it is hard to come up with new ideas.

Most games are like books, just a new angle on the same theme.

PS, Penumbra was a good idea and scary too.

The graphics were nice, but I thought the story was a bit cliche and the gameplay bored me. Each to their own i guess. It's by no means bad, but didnt grab me.

So what did then, that was better?
I found DS a bit repetative too and got bored after the new aliens were just old ones but stronger and faster, it was a solid game nontheless and i did enjoy it for a while but the 'surprise's' became diminished because they were used far too often

Better?
Silent Hill
Fatal Frame
Residen Evil
Eternal Darkness
Alien vs Predator
The Suffering <- one of the darkest storylines i have seen in a game, controls are a bit annoying but you get used to it

just to name a few :p
