More plane terror plots 'likely'

'cos terrorists, like almost all criminals are basically stupid and imaginative.

I have no doubt and any small group of intelligent, motivated could cause massive damage with home made explosives in the underground, concerts, festivals, sporting fixtures etc... The only reason is doesn't happen is that there simply aren't intelligent, motivated people trying.

It wouldn't cause major chaos. Disrupting the entire London Underground network for days - now that's chaos. Closing down a football stadiums for 24 hours - hell, that's just a minor irritation. People need transport. They don't need football stadiums. When's the last time you heard of the City being paralysed because Stamford Bridge was closed? :D

Even better would be to simultaneously hit Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. You get 2 big stadiums of 2 of UK's biggest football teams. You may even end up taking out some of the high profile footballers. This may discourage foreign football players from getting a job in the UK - an added bonus.

I think that these terrorists are not being inventive and are hitting transportation because that is what traditionally has been done. 1 jumbo jet might get blown up to bring down say 400 people, but hitting a stadium could net you 1000s of kills. Also, the security is lower in football stadia.

What sort of device did you have in mind here? Something that can kill thousands of people yet is still so small you can smuggle it into a football ground undetected? And what would that be, exactly? :confused: Even the suicide bombers in Iraq can't kill thousands of people at once - and they're using car bombs in the marketplace, for crying out loud!

The casualty rate is necessarily restricted by the available technology. You'd have better luck trying to crash a plane into Old Trafford. That method, at least, offers casualties in the thousands.

True. These days, if anybody tries "anything" on an airplane, they'll be rushed by 400 passengers, who feel they have nothing to loses anyway. Paradoxically, it may be safer now in that aspect, especially with all the security measures. You cant incapacitate a whole plane load of passengers, and the most you'll get through wont be close enough to stop the entire lot of passengers either.

I'm far more nervous if i were going to concerts or stadiums for reasons as described above... Criminal minds (S2E10) has an episode on it

A lot of the terrorists have University backgrounds. These guys are highly intelligent.

Some terrorists are going to be stupid - just like from any walk of life - however, there are many terrorists who come from well accomplished backgrounds.

Just like we (on this forum) have come up with better targets for terrorism in only a few hours, I'm pretty sure that terrorists could do just the same.

I'm more worried about the "vests" that you see used in Isreal. Those wont cause massive causalities BUT they will seriously mess up our way of life.

Just hope that MI5 can keep on top of these chaps....

But they live in fear which is the message they want to send, its not about the number of deaths its about fear.

If there were highly intelligent, motivated terrorists... they would succeed. Simply as. The fact that they don't means either there aren't any terrorists at all, or the terrorists that do exist are just dumb and unimaginative.

put it this way this thread is flaged already, MI$ et al supercomputers are already cross referencing your past posts ip address etc.. they now know who you are.
so by posting your ideas it'll give them other insights, you might even get a thank you in morse via a light bulb or something like that.

Of for sure. Too many keywords in one place. I'm sure they are reading it right now..... then again, they'll quickly realize we're the "good uns"... i hope... :eek:
