i take it seriously when people believe you can learn an instrument from playing a game.
Oh, so this is about someone belittling your ability.
Ok, so what if someone brough out a drumming game that was accurate and faithful to how the music is played, would you still complain about it?
If yes, you are petty and just getting upset because you don't like the idea of anyone suceeding without doing what you had to do.
Well both are bleedin' expensive!

Back to the main point. Around here we get a lot of Rock Band/Guitar Hero nights in bars etc. It's the new Karaoke. Again people are doing it for the fun. Replace those plastic controllers with real instruments and I bet you would have a awful sound and a lot less people going up. I don't see many open mic nights around lol.

No because it takes years to become good at playing an instrument, so a game will never teach that, stop talking trash.
I never said anyone could become as good as you at playing the drums, I personaly know how hard it is, or at least can guess, my Brother is a studio drummer, I was simply getting at the fact you seem to think anything that can possibly teach people the basics of rythem is complete rubbish, simply becasue it is a game.
No one ever said it could teach them to play as well as someone who has been paying for years, they said basics, you then decided this was rubbish where as in actual fact, it is a fair assumption.
Of course not, but it helps you with the basics. I'd never played the drums, until I got Guitar Hero. I was absolutely dire at first but you get better progressively and you could then go on to play the real instrument (which obviously is more difficult).
im arguing the case that the game does not teach rhythm, or a lot of aspects and elements that go into the playing of drums, the game merely lets you tap to a track, which i might add isnt actually allowing the user to get a real for drums, the real thing is a far way off what gh/rb shows the user.
therefore im saying anybody who seems to think they can move onto a real kit after playing the game, has really got the wrong idea.
no it doesnt even do that, stop thinking it does please.
I learnt to play guitar at a basic level but found it very difficult due to abnormally sized hands/fingers (especially).
I play guitar hero on expert though, and no its no substitute its not really intended to be.
Humans are competative, its just a hand-eye co-ordination game in the guise of a guitar to cover-up the fact that its simply testing yourself vs others or yourself on your ability to hammer colours in order

You really are arogant to the point of being annoying.
Teaching rythem and moving directly onto a drum kit are differant things, stop connecting them.
You can learn rythem without being able to play the drums, being able to keep a rythem going is very hard for some people (like myself, I have no rythem) and simply going through an easy "follow the pretty lights" exersise over and over until you can IS TEACHING RYTHEM, I am not saying they can play a song on rock band then pay it on a kit, I am saying they can learn how to hold a rythem or even two at once.
i dont see how you dont understand what im saying, yes the majority can learn rhythm, but the way in which the game is designed isnt teaching proper rhythm jeez.
Take your head out of your arse son. Not all of us have the supposed ability of yourself. Of course it teaches you, I found it very difficult to co-ordinate a bass pedal and my hands at the same time, but I got better over time.
Of course it teaches you at least some of the basics. It teaches you how to hold a drum stick well, it teaches you how to use a bass pedal, hell it even teaches some people what the hell a bass pedal even is, are those not basics? There's also other things, such as rhythm outlined above which it will help with at least marginally.
I'm not claiming it's the perfect way to begin to learn the drums but it certainly does teach you at least some of the basics.
Maybe not, but you said above it effectively teaches you nothing at all about drumming, which is just simply not true now is it?
no it doesnt teach you anything apart from how to tap along to a song, it shows you how to hold drumsticks and use a bass pedal properly? funniest thing i have heard.
Just for the record im not the greatest drummer in the world, and i will never say i am, so dont put me into the category that im saying i am, there are some brilliant drummers on this forum who will support what i say.
Go and find them then, because all you've proven so far is your arrogance.
