no NEO GEO?.....load of rubbish...this console was more advanced than ANY at the time of release(1990)
the neo geo itself wasnt all that advanced. it's interesting actually, when you compare it to a megadrive its largly the same hardware.
mega drive:
Motorola 68000 16/32-bit processor running at 7.67 MHz
Co-processor (Sound Controller): Zilog Z80 8-bit at 3.58 MHz
Memory: 156KB total - 64 KB Main RAM, 64KB VRAM, 8KB Sound RAM. 20 Kb ROM
Display Palette: 512
Onscreen colors: 64
Maximum onscreen sprites: 80
Resolution: 256 × 192, 256 × 224, 320 × 224, 320 × 448

neo geo:
Main processor: Motorola 68000, often produced by another manufacturer, running at 12 MHz
Co-processor: Zilog Z80 running at 4 MHz. This is also used as an audio controller.
Main memory (used directly by 68000) 74 Kb, Sound memory (used directly by Z80): 2 KB
Sound: Yamaha YM2612 5 channel FM and 1 channel FM/PCM, Texas Instruments SN76489 4 channel PSG (Programmable Sound Generator)
Color palette: 65,536
Maximum colors on screen: 4,096
Maximum sprites on screen: 384
Display resolution: 320x224 (many games only used the centermost 304 pixels)
obviously it was better, but it was no leap forward in any sense. yes it did bring memory cards to the table, being able to use them in the arcade was a novel feature, but the pricing of the games was so far out of reach that it never took on, not until the playstation was released really.
with games costing a huge £200!!! Shows how advanced the NEO GEO was

This was the first console to have a removable memory card just like the ps1 except you could take the memory card down to your local arcade, plug the memory card into the arcade machine and continue where you left off from at your home!!!
arguable, its more likely the cost of of the ram at the time. when the neo geo cd was released in 94 (4 years after) the price of the cd's were around $50, much more reasonable.
