MSI P55 Series *Official* Motherboard thread

Right LLC enabled/disabled are definitely the wrong way around. For optimum safe overclocking you want LLC disabled and a VCore less than 1.4V I reckon.

Lol unbelievable they got them mixed up!

I did think as much when I set it.

You finished the prime yet?

OK - notes so far;

1. It doesn't like the PCIe bus frequency being messed about with. Anything over 101MHz tends to just fail the overclock.

2. It doesn't seem to mind running with no adjustment on the CPU or PCIe Amplitude - RJKONeill reported that some other boards had to have 1000mV or they didn't clock.

3. The XMP profile on Bioses after the original BIOS limit the overclock substantially. 1600MHz RAM like my Corsair Dominator sets the overclock at 3.2GHz and you can't adjust it. That's a bit poor.

3. The MFlash from USB works really well.

4. OC Genie gets worse with each BIOS revision. On BIOS v1.0 I got a 4.2GHz boot into Windows and it was reasonable stable. By BIOS 1.4 I'm getting roughly 3.3GHz.

5. Relative to some motherboards I've tried the chipset runs quite cool.

6. Turning off the automatic phase control and the accompanying flashing blue LEDs helped stabilise my overclock but wrecked my reported efficiency.

Well, my previously 'stable' 4GHz now isn't any more.

If I didn't know better I'd say they're crippling these boards to make the GD80's more attractive. But that's not true - just me foaming at the mouth:D

Do you mean you want LLC actually disabled and therefore set to enabled in the BIOS, or do you mean set to disabled in the BIOS and therefore actually enabled?

I mean you want LLC Enabled, so set [Disabled] in the BIOS. Keep up!:D

Is it worth me putting 1.4 on?

Just got my CPU and ram today, I will be setting up my new rig later :D.

I had my mobo first (GD65) and so decided to put some AS MX-2 on the PCH (Northbridge). Could anybody post the temps of their PCH so I can compare when I get mine up and running? The thermal pad was a right pain to get off!

edit: And ambient temp would help too cheers :D

I have to be honest, I would probably have checked the board was operational before I admitted online that I'd voided the warranty.

As far as I'm aware there are only two motherboard sensors - the TCase CPU sensor which is currently reading 50 on mine (71C Core temp under load) and the MB sensor which is reading 31C at the moment. Room temperature is currently 18C.

Got my GD80 all up and running, but having a slight problem that my G15 Keyboard does not power on untill after the bios screen!!. Anyone know of any tricks other than using a different keyboard?

You already mentioned that the board runs cool enough, so I don't think MX2 would really give it a needed drop in temperatures anyway.

Oh well each to their own

I think you'll find that even thpough the lights aren't on, it is working. I'm using a G15 with my GD65 and I'm not having any issues.
