Batman: Arkham Asylum

So should my local PC game retailer have this in stock to buy today ???

No - it hasn't been released early by Eidos - it's just in stock early at some places - again I still believe this is one of the first GFWL titles that uses the authentication method where it won't unlock until Friday anyway.

Yep its definately coming out next friday as is Resident Evil5 & Red Faction Guerilla. RFG & Batman are already instock at many places but they cannot sell until then although you may get it delivered early due to the ongoing postal strikes causing massive disruption in many parts of Southern England.

I had to pay £15 extra & reorder all 3 using special delivery as thats the only way to get guaranteed delivery right now

As they all use GFWL3.0 the games may not even work until next friday in EU anyway depends on when they turn on the activation servers as all 3 games launch in US on Tuesday & Steam has RE5 for preorder now but much higher price than retail £24.99 (as always!!) vs £18.99 online if you look around ;)

Where are you guys getting your 17.99 pre-orders from? Lowest I can find is 22.99 :(

If anyone could tell me please :)

I got mine for £16.10 delivered.

It was a one weekend only deal and there was a 10% discount on at the same time.

It was from a online arm of the company that took over Virgin Megastores.

For RE5 I cannot link as a competitor but if you do a google for resident evil5 PC it will not take long to find for £18.95 as not many doing it at that price!!

Could check an auction site, some people are selling the nvidia download coupon that comes with nvidia cards. Prices seem to be around £16.

What is the expected Gameplay time on this?

Also, what is the level/weapon variation like?

Any chance it could get repetitive quickly?

about 12 hours, more if you are on hard and want to get all the collectables. The challenges will add at least another 2-3 hours if you want to 100% them as well

level variation is pretty good, a lot of vents but I never found it repetitive. Especially the combat which was my main worry from the demo.

Thank you for the reply Mr Kebab.

After playing the demo, the combat was one of the things I was worrying about in terms of repetitiveness (Is that a word).

12 hours is good.

Looking forward to Friday.

Mine arrived this morning. Will try it tonight to see if the activation thing exists.

I'm seriously, seriously getting ****ed though with legally buying PC games these days. I wish they could go back to the old days of you buy a game and its yours. No online activation, no set number of installs, etc, etc.

Either that or make it CLEAR on the order page that it requires an online connection or activation BEFORE you buy it and hear about it on forums. My internet connection in the shared house is utter crap and drops all the time.

I preorder as I used to enjoy receiving the game a bit early when it sometimes arrives a day or two early. If they're taking that away from people now too for legally buying what incentive do I get for splashing out cash?

If it doesnt work when i get back home I'm going to dread friday because a) I can see the activation servers being overloaded and not working or b) My internet connection will have one of its crap days and not be working!!

The bit on the back of the box makes me laugh. In bold it says "YOU MUST ACCEPT THE ENCLOSED LICENCE AGREEMENT" where we all know once you've opened it you can't take it back anyway as all PC users are filthy pirates apparently.

God damn I like the game a lot TBH, Batman is hardcore, the finishing uppercuts, flying spin kicks and smackdowns being handed out are made of win. I'm at the bit where I have to rescue the doctors now and am having a whale of a time finding the Riddler's trophies as many I can see but cannot reach!

PhysX is nice, the cape doing all physicsy stuff as well as debris/smoke etc - all nice.

This made me giggle...

Cunning copyright catches crooks

Batman: Arkham Asylum is inspired by, rather than a direct adaptation, of the movie.
Video games developer Eidos have come up with a novel way of catching users playing pirated copies of their game.

The BBC are very behind with the times. The problem has already been bypassed.
