Card details stolen

Don't we all cover our numbers as we type these days.

Mind you a quick check of the cashpoint would soon set your mind at rest if you don't find any hidden cameras.
Which 99.999% of the time there won't be.

Have you seen the set ups that are used ? They are extremely discreet pinhole types and not a 1970s ex Thames TV camera glued to the wall.

While most cashpoints may not have them attatched, I see no harm in offering the lad some advice.

And no, not everyone covers their PIN.

Yes, i have seen their setup.

Which is why i will never lose my number at a cashpoint.

But whatever the setup, a hand covering you as you type wins every time.

Having said that i am paranoid so i always check a cashpoint by trying to pull it apart.

If you lose your number at a cashpoint after all of the warnings about using them, then you are a fool.

If only others were as thorough.

Another quick question:

I have ordered two items, both from different but well known online stores in the past week, obviously payments that I knew about and expected to go out of my account. The payment for one of the items has been taken but I don't think it has been finalised yet (basically they usually debit the money from my account and then a few days later the full transaction details appear on my account) and it is currently awaiting despatch from the retailer. The other payment I think may have gone through but then sometimes they vanish from my account for a few days and then they finalise and appear again so I think this is what has happened to one of them but again, this item has been shipped I think.

Will these payments still go through fully on my account even though the card I used has been cancelled? Because I'm pretty sure both items have been posted to me now.

Thanks for your help.

Happened to me a few weeks ago on my BoS visa debit, was paying for my girlfriends phone bill on the phone when it got rejected. Phoned up my bank to make sure everything was peachy, he said it was. Later that day going home for the dentist, tried to buy a train ticket from a machine, said sorry out of paper hmmmm....

Came back from the dentist the next day (1st September) and luckily I checked my account to see if my rent had came out properly due to a muck up last month by the property company and there it was, two random payments one £110 tmobile 0845 payment and £200odd payment to a tent website.

Phoned up the bank right away, canceled my card within seconds, then the guy looked into it further and went onto explain they had picked up and blocked a possible fraud payment a day or so earlier, so as I made sure there were no other bad payments he sorted it out and put me through to fraud, who again were very nice and helpful.

Popped back to my parent/billing address on the 8th (last week) signed the fraud papers and got my new card and today I got a txt from my Mum saying she just got a letter for me from the bank saying all the money was back in my account.

Anyway to sum a long post short. Bank of Scotland have very nice phone staff and even for a debit card they look after you well, Mums are good to calm you down when you notice several hundred pounds are missing from your account and people who steal card details to buy a tent are *****. ;)

EDIT: Also I still have no idea how my card details where stolen, only recent things I bought online had been through a very very trustworthy (cant name competitor) site and paypal, hadnt used a cash machine in yonks and the only place I had used my card was at the supermarket. The only things I could think off were a virus (all PC's in the house have since been cleaned and formatted) or that they were stolen a while ago but not used until now.

It will be fine so long as they have authorisation codes, so if you've seen them hit the account they will go through. Transactions sit on your account for up to 3 working days when an authorisation code is given then drop off until the funds are claimed by the store which is why they seem to disappear.

A lot of ppl that have used Shopto have reported cc fraud, especially o2 top ups. It may be unrelated, but there does seem to be a lot of instances where shopto and cc fraud go hand in hand. I've used them myself without any problems, but it's something to be wary about.

Coincidentally enough this has just happened to me as well £30 o2 top up taken.

i cancelled card ofc. And bank are in the process of refunding the amount unfortunately because they now send these off to their fraud departments it takes up to two weeks. (before they would refund straight away)

They also want to close my account and re-open a new account. I havent went ahead with this yet.

p.s. and yep ive bought stuff from Shopto as well :/ not for around 5 or 6 months though

Apparently the supermarkets near me are being hit with the dodgy cashpoints. Not sure if the lady working in Morrisons should have said anything but it's nice to know. Been keeping a close eye on my account since I heard.

I must admit, I am a bit lazy when it comes to cashpoints and there are times when I just punch the pin in without it being covered :o

weirdly i bought from the same place a while back and got hit for fraud... £1 charity donation followed by £500 insurance - damn city card are taking their sweet time sorting the chargeback out :(

I've just been speaking to the fraud department on the phone and they said that they will send my some forms to sign and then will be in contact within 7-10 days as they have to investigate it.

I asked about getting my money returned and the woman said that they can't comment on that at the moment as it has to be investigated.

I cancelled the card last night though, and a new one has been sent out.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

I'm pretty sure my card details have been used for online purchases that I didn't make, four from the same store (Lebara Mobile, two £20 purchases and two £10 purchases) and one for an O2 topup.

I have no idea what to do now, and I have no idea how they have got my details either as there are no viruses of any sort on my PC.

Can anyone advise me on what to do next?

Thanks for your help.

i had this last Sunday night , rung them up in abit of a panic at about 11:30 (at night) got the card block took about a week to get a new card and pin number the biggest pain is the ass is the barclays disputes team only putting down 2 out of 12+ transaction that were not made by me.

So im going to have to ring them again sigh tell them again and wait for a new bunch of forms bah , need the cash too as im out of a job at the end of the month ,oh the joys of stress.

I was told that I would just get a new card and the pin number would be the same, is this a problem?

Also, will I definitely get my money back? As I didn't like the way they said 'we can't tell you at the moment'.

Thanks.
