Resident Evil 5 PC-13/03/09

Whats the general consensus on this one then, any good, as i may give it a whirl :)

It is a very, very good game, but very similar to RE4 and obviously it dosen't feel as new and inventive as that game. It also looks and runs very well - CAPCOM has now shown that a port from consoles doesen't have to suffer graphically if the developer is serious about the PC version.

Thanks for that, think ill go pick it up. :)

RE5 is not actually a port its created on the PC then ported to the consoles and because of piracy concerns PC version is then delayed until the console sales dry up which is why we get it 7 months later. The game was finished in June according to the readme but no-one likes to release big games then as they do not sell as well as autumn/winter.

Try playing this on pro mode then the No Mercy mode as they are insane to beat  but thats how you go around unlocking all the inf weapons, extra costumes and other bonuses like additional graphics filters as like all great Japanese developers Capcom like you to fully play their game to fully unlock all the content :D

Quite enjoying this so far. Not as blown away by it as I was with RE4 the first time I played it but it has been a couple of years and not much of the basic mechanics has changed tbh.

But liking it so far and for £17 with not a lot else to play at the moment definitely glad I got it. Looks, sounds and plays great and looking forward to a few more good hours of zombie(-ish :p) blasting.

Cancelled mine from THAT exvirgin retailer, what's the point, No idea how long I'd be waiting for their stock. The big A has it for £1 more and I might flog my Wolfenstein on there for a bit extra cash :)

Forgot to ask. This does play okay with keyboard & mouse? I'll be damned if I convert to one of these overpriced, ugly Xbox controllers :)

Well i got it, doesn't seem to bad, and the gfx are great, but one thing, what set of controls does everyone use for the 360 pad, as im forever running into walls and stuff, as i keep forgetting that you have to use the right stick to turn. :D

I use the default mapping. Right stick is no different than using a mouse :p

Couple of screens. Hoping for a patch to sort out some of the massive framerate drops I get in certain parts with my 4890.

Graphically it's stunning but the controls for this game are just awful. Constantly running into walls, the controls don't feel fluid at all and make the game really difficult to play. Can't seem to aim whilst moving and the camera is way too close to the player. Would have thought after all that work with stunning textures, cutscenes and graphics they could actually sort out the controls :o

It's strange, and no other game would get away with it, but that's almost one of the draws of the RE series. The controls add to the tension. Crazy, I know.

Played it for 30 mintes but the controls REALLY started to fustrate me. Its like driving a car and taking away the steering wheel randomly to add tension.

May play it again as it does look nice, pitty to miss it.

Does it still take about 6 shots to the face to kill grunts? :p
Not when you get the upgraded Magnum or Rocket Launcher with inf ammo ;) like any game you start with the low power weapons first then upgrade or trade to better just like an RPG.

Controls are supposed to be slow & deliberate as its survival horror so that adds to the tension its not an action FPS.

Camera is designed to be close to the player as many of the battles are close range.

If you take the time to learn the controls you will find there are shortcuts for turning 180 degrees etc etc. Its designed for an X360 gamepad anything else is much harder to control mouse + kb especially. This is a multiplatform game design not a PC FPS!

All the aiming is done using the mouse, which makes combat much easier over a pad. A pad only has a slight advantage during the keypress cutscene thingies (forgot what they're called).
