Kid dies in Somerfield

They're just looking for someone to blame. What's the Supermarket supposed to do, put rubber mats on the floor? Its a tragedy to be sure. I've three young sons and they're always getting cuts or banging heads and losing skin, all manner of stupid things. That's just boys, short of dressing them in a rubber suit and sedating them. Our eldest is Autistic and we are incredibly aware of danger and very proactively protective. You can take all the precautions you like, but they'll still find some way of getting hurt.

Scousers eh.

On a sidenote, I used to live near that particular store, the staff in there are some of the most rude and unhelpful people I've ever encountered in a supermarket.

The parents should be charged with negligence tbh not the supermarket.

Exactly. No blame on Summerfield at all, they aren't running a creche. (except where they actually run a creches :p )

Neglectful Parents :(

Why is ANYONE to blame for this?
It's not the supermarket's fault and neither are the Parents.

Anyone who has kids or has baby sat will tell you that kids can get up to the most insane things in the manner of moments and it's impossible watching them 24/7

I thought about this too, but I'm sure it is the parents' fault. Yes, it is hard to look after young kids all the time but you should. Negligence is defined as not respecting your own duty of care to someone or something. The parents had a duty of care towards their child which they failed in upholding, and in doing so the child killed himself. In a place like a supermarket they should be especially vigilant. Also the child sounds like an idiot.

Harry Blackmore was swinging on a small steel rail when he fell in the store in Liverpool.
I'm sorry, but how could that possibly be Somerfield's fault?

In fact what have they got to do with anything?

If he wass swinging on a lamp-post and fell, will they sue the local council or something?

Don't be such a retard.

Having a 4 year old son myself, I can only imagine the hurt they are experiencing, but sueing someone won't do anything to help that.

100% agreed.

I find it shocking that the majoroty of the responses on this forum slate the parents for lack of control.

Come back when you have kids, as said above they can get into any amount of trouble in a matter of seconds.

They put the warning on coffee cups didn't they, as if it wasn't brutally obvious that if you buy a cup of coffee, it's going to be hot.

Umm, thats more to do with the polystyrene masking the true heat of the liquid.

It's not like the kid nipped off to do some skydiving or play chicken with a truck. Swinging a on a small rail, recognised lethal that is, going by that I should be dead a hundred times over from my childhood.

Good luck with keeping your kids on a leash all the time. Might think about bubble wrapping and cotton wool as well

Accidents are defined as:

1. an undesirable or unfortunate happening that occurs unintentionally and usually results in harm, injury, damage, or loss; casualty; mishap

The child sounds like a child.

Yes the parents could be more vigilant, but not negligible, in my opinion of course. They are morons for trying to sue, im not disputing that fact ;)

Bloody liberal people, this is why there are so many stupid signs everywhere.

Poor kid :(
