Resident Evil 5 PC-13/03/09

Installed this last night after flicking through the thread.

Very pretty game that runs really well but yeah, the controls suck.

Also I spend half my time trying to heal my partner while she runs on the spot facing a wall. :(

lol, it's normally her healing me. :D

Not sure what the button is if using k/b but the B button on the 360 pad calls her too you if she is out of range. Holding B brings up a pop up menu that changes their state between attack (run off like a loon smashing pots etc) and cover (sticks next to you quite often being useless while you're surrounded by enemies. :D )

I think it's F on the PC, been a few days since I played it.

The controls aren't that gash, it teaches you everything you need at least once. It's the style of game more than anything I think. Aiming with mouse = win!

I don't mind the controls tbh, though yet to try m+k/b. Just seems the kind of game to play sat back with the pad on the big TV. Plus I completed RE4 on the GC, so playing with the pad I just slipped back into it.

I don't get a lot of this talk about 'bad' controls etc tbh but maybe that's my age and from playing games back in the 80s when they where a lot more fixed and unforgiving. It's the same as now in that I very rarely re-map any controls either, bar crouch and prone on the odd FPS. It always used to be about learning the game and it's mechanics and playing the best you could within those tight constraints.

But saying that it was all newer back then and you made the most of any old rubbish that you ended up playing, lol. :D

Where can I get these fan hacks?

Cheers

The site I got them from is unavailable now. I did a quick search and found a forum which should have everything that you need:

The main one is:

-Resident Evil 4 PC Texture Patch 2.0 By Albert

I used a xbox360 replacement button pack, but not sure which, as there are a couple. I think there was an improved lighting pack as well.

The texture pack, in particular, makes the game look bearable. The button pack is useful for the quicktime events, as the game would always mess up the pay layout and confuse me.

Controls are very easy you need to read more often the onscreen messages or manual in the box ;)

On 360 gamepad hold the B button down to get an onscreen menu then hit the D pad up or down to select Cover or Follow the other trick is to continually hit B so your AI follows you everywhere otherwise the AI wanders around trying to kill everything.

You can tell the game was really designed with a human co-op partner in mind because of this and its extremely challenging to clear Pro without a human AI. The importance of clearing Pro is that it unlocks lots of bonus goodies in the menus ;)

I had this but dropping Cat AI back down to standard, from advanced, and setting the Avio video, all settings page, back to defaults seemed to fix it. That's with a 4870x2, maxed, at 1080p x4AA, Win7 Cat 9.9.

Could have been the restart that did it but I managed to watch the few cut scenes through the menu, that where black first time around and then continued my game and saw the next few cut scenes ok. Though I didn't play much further, so maybe it stops working again after a while.

This works for a bit then stops as i still got blank cutscenes.Turning Cat AI off may work better but its like removing AA on the char as hes a little fuzzzy around the edges.

top this off with woeful lvl 3 performance on ati 9.8 and unable to pull off 60fps in dx 9 and im not happy :(

it seems every game nowadays has bugs as i cant even pull of a solid 60fps in arkham asylum either which doesnt look as pretty as res 5 imo.it keeps stuttering from 90 to 40 during fights which to me is poor coding.

mt rig should handle these games 60fps easily...

Yum yum Tribal Sheva. :D

Such a pain in the arse getting all BSAA emblems, but good thing the game is short and easy in some places. And I really love the cutscene quality models of the character and enemy figures in the Library. Not to mention the game looks lovely with all graphics details whacked up to it's highest.

Unless I am extremely tired or ill, I'm actually getting used to the 60+FPS in the game now since even watching from the benchmark tool back when it was released months ago gave me really bad motion sickness.

Just want to state how awesome this game is. Gameplay isn't particularly innovative, but it works well, more or less bug free and most importantly it's fun and engaging.

This is the first RE game I've played, but I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and quite like the emphasis on managing your ammo/resources. It's quite annyoing at the start when you only have the pistol, but once you get the sniper rifles and shotgun it's pretty fun and not insanely difficult as I was expecting. Also, although I'm pretty sure playing co-op is gonna be much better, I think Capcom have done a decent job with the AI that controls Sheva.

A top class game imho, very polished (very much like DMC4), looks awesome yet runs silky smooth and judging by how much extra there is to do/see outside of the core storyline, it's clear that a lot of thought has gone into it's development.

What I find is no matter how many times you go through the same chapters with the same set pieces in each of them, it is still really fun to play.

Playing Co-Op online and "failing" the Quicktime event cutscenes makes me laugh sometimes, especially when you can skip right to the part where it is needed, and then watch as you or your online partner fail 10 times in a row or whatever :p.

What is also really fun and challenging, is playing Professional mode using the crappy weapons with limited ammo i.e no unlimited ammo games, or a pistol-only game without a Magnum based one.

Yeah, stopped working for me as well. So now just playing maxx settings in DX10 with no AA. But sitting back from the 40" 1080p TV I'm playing on it looks ok with out AA.

And are you running the 9.9 cats? Much better than the 9.8s. Did think about trying the beta drivers ATi released for the new 5xxx series but no idea if there's much difference in them for the 4xxx series.

ye im running 9.9 cats and it saved my fps! i can pull off a smooth 60 with 4x aa in dx 10 maxed but i will have to wait for cat 9.10 to hopefully fix the cutscenes going blank!

Horrible controls, I embarrassingly am struggling to get past the first mini-boss using a 360 controller. I may give mouse a try but it felt odd to me when I did use it, looking up and down felt much slower than looking left or right, and then when you started moving, looking left and right slowed down instead...confusing!

I'm rather happily surprised by the graphics - and the performance :)

sharp as anything, 1900x1200 - 4xAA - DX10 mode, and averaging 70fps or so

brilliant

anyone got any cheats for unlimited ammo etc??
Complete the game once and if you have a weapon that is fully upgraded, you can then purchase the option for it to have unlimited ammo in the Bonus Features section and then enable it under Special Features. For the Rocket Launcher, you just need a total time of under 5 hours on any difficulty, so that means you can play any chapter in order to decrease the game time amount (Do speed runs with powerful weapons on Amature). Also the Grenade Launcher is the only weapon without the option of unlimited ammo.

As for people complaining about the controls, yeah it is horrible, but then that is the gameplay mechanic of a Resident Evil game. I personally think that the tank controls have transfered very well from old 3rd Person RE 1-3/Code Veronica games to the more action over-the-shoulder 3rd Person viewpoint in RE 4 & 5.

Keyboard and Mouse controls is defiantely one of the best features for the PC version of this game, but I do find that it makes things far too easy though. I do like to play with the controller sometimes just to limit myself and make the game feel that much harder or add more tension.
