When parked up do you leave your car in gear?

I don't have a choice - I can't even take the key out unless it's in reverse.

Me to, Saab 9-5. I imagine they are hard to steal as it would take some work getting it out of reverse lol.

I am surprised that Saab didn't make it so it won't start unless you press the clutch though, my mates Evo is like that and I think my dads BMW too?

I always leave mine in second whilst parked regardless of the gradient of the road.

Force of habit :)

Always, I never trust just one safety measure.

On another note, always double bag, or if single bagged, bleach or naplam as secondary protection :D

Why wouldn't you leave it in gear?

The only reasons i can think of is your incapable of checking the things out of gear before you start the car or you don't understand the mechanics and consequences of not doing so.

I leave mine in gear, my dad droned on about it constantly when I was learning. It stuck. I can't see any harm, I've never (in errr, 9 years of driving) forgotten to take it out of gear before starting the engine, as far as I can remember anyway.

I leave mine in gear from habit, but the handbrake is useless in my S so it's handy leaving it in gear now.

i always leave it in gear, usually 2nd.
it's mainly out of habit, but also my handbrake shoes are knackered and i was told that one of them might not release after being put on, so i don't really want to take that risk.

i leave it in gear without the handbrake 99% of the time, hill or not.

Saab 900 here which locks the car in reverse, so i have little choice. It was already a habbit though and is something i that i do in cars that do not need to be put into reverse to remove the key. Trouble i have with other cars is finding the ignition, as i am trying to put the key in a non-existant key hole next to the hand-brake.

Unless it's on the flat it gets left in gear.

I have OCD about checking if a car is in gear before I drive. I was given a lift by a friend, he'd park tight against a wall. I had to get into the drivers seat and then climb over. I actualy checked to see if it was in gear (much to his amusment).

As for dipping the clutch while starting. My car's started motor won't run unless the clutch is all the way down (it's from a country with more litigation specialists then manual cars).

I park in gear, but when I turn ignition I have a habit of pressing my foot on the clutch to disengage the mech.

If on a hill facing downhill I leave it in reverse, if facing uphill I leave it in 1st.

Only really if the hill is really steep though. Otherwise it's in neutral.

I get in a car, waggle the gear knob to make sure it is not in gear, insert keys, depress clutch, turn key, put in gear, lift of clutch, and drive away.

So, it matters not really if the car is in gear. I only leave a car in gear on mahoosive hills.
