Has anyone here gone from the 20mb to 50mb on virgin? Very temmpted to do so myself but wonder how the two compare in terms of speed? Is the upload speed any faster than the 20mb?

I have gone from 20-50 i even went back to 20 for a 2-3 days but the lower speeds were terrible so i upgraded again to 50, the upload roughly doubles so you will get around 160kb/s + upload as opposed to 80's on 20, your download will jump from 2.3mb/s up to 6.2mb/s it all depends how good it is in your area really, and there is no stm on 50mb as of yet. As a rough] guide on 20m you will do 4.7 gig in around 40 mins and on 50 you will get it at roughly 15 mins mark.

A rough speed test for you don't use these as 100% perfect as i find speed test sites terrible to gauge speeds.

If your 20mb is good then 50mb will be great, i couldn't go back now i tried it and it just felt slow you get used to seeing the mb/s fly by on 50 it spoils you.

It does... I remember when half a meg was fast! :D

Hahaha ye i remember those days when you were amazed at bein able to download an mp3 in under an hour!

they'll be round to install on the 12th:D

Managed to talk them out of all the installation fees ect so all in for an extra £5 per month over the old XL package. Pretty good.

I remember my friend getting BB, must have been 2001 or 2002 and being so jealous when he said it took almost the same time to download an mp3 from kazaa as it did to listen to it!

Kinda crazy now when you think about how much media is streamed.

In my case I 'upgraded' from 20mbit to 50mbit. I was seeing 2400KB/sec speeds on 20mbit which was fine but after upgrading to 50mbit, I was seeing 600KB/sec speeds.

So for me the 'upgrade' resulted in a quarter of the original speed. I have since downgraded back to 20mbit because Virgin can't find any problems and that's exactly the same too. It's definitely not any of my kit either because my ADSL2+ connection quite happily downloads at 2000KB/sec and over.

Luckily, the speed issues I am experiencing are seemingly only affecting a small amount of users. Just be warned that if you find yourself in a similar situation, you're screwed because Virgin technical support actually said to me, and I quote, "I'm not sure what else to suggest".

Speed is a lot faster.

About 210KMB upload for me, and I hit 5/9 - 6MB per second download.

No bandwidth caps is nice, especially when downloading games via steam / large patches.

My ping is a bit high there, it's usually around 10 to speedtest.net

*edit*

Mods I believe that link is allowed, as speedtest.net specify it's ok to link on forums - if not please remove. :)

As I remember I get about 20meg down & .7 up on the 20 meg service. I'm not gaming or downloading enough to justify upgrading now though.

decided to get this installed wont be till the 4th though. £4 extra on my bill + the install fee which they wouldnt budge on, my sis works there and *aparently* there not giving free installs to anyone. i did argue.. got me nowhere lol

Would i see an improvement over my current speed - Im supposed to get 20mb. Past 2 days this is what ive got:

~ 2 hours to download 75MB

Would 50mb better this?

gone from 20MB to 50MB and will never look back, also, there are pilots for 10MB upload speed and 50MB down so we might be lucky to get a free upgrade by next year.

im on teh 50 meg but been having lots of trouble the last 2 weeks apart fromn that its god damn amazing

I have had the issues also, but then so have my friends who have been on both 10MB and 20MB.

I am not certain if that is just in my area though, restarting my modem 3 times a day recently is extremely annoying.

I will say though that I love the service other than that, I would not like to go back down to 20MB.
