Stay Alive!!!

There's a decent cocktail bar near the Nottingham Arena but I can't remember what it was called :(

Probaly Tantra, we allways end up in there at some point in the evening when in town.

Worth putting on the list if you're hitting the town for the night, it's a unique place compared to all the standard chain bars.

Tantra's rubbish! i hate it in there, very pretentious and crap music! to be fair, it's always packed and generally with lots of hotties :p

Go to uni here, if you want a night out, Stealth is brilliant, and the Gatecrasher is re-opening, and the people who I know work there say the changes are really impressive. Maybe worth seeing if theres anything at the arena that night?

Yeah, I didnt like the old gatecrasher that much, hate oceana seeing as every room is rammed, Stealth and Rescue Rooms are awesome though. Not been for a while, has it got any busier as some nights ive been there, and there was about 20 people inside?

Ace isn't it? Love the atmosphere there, really relaxed and the food is always great.

Indeed it is. Was a bit wary about going at first, thinking it might be overly prententious. I was completely off the mark there, thankfully :)

First place I've eaten where you get to chat to Chef in the bar afterwards and he orders a taxi for you.

i also like the bars at the top of canning circus, the sir john b, the hand in heart (i think, it's just down from 1877 - has a gallery upstairs plus loads of good wine and spirits), plus then you've got cast which is next to the theatre, they usually have something on.

I used to live just by there (above the fancy dress shop on the corner of Alfreton & Derby Roads), the Sir John was a cracking pub for when you just wanted a quiet drink and relax.

There used to also be a decent Mexican restaurant there as well, not sure if it's still there these days.

whereabout in Notts are you .Kencs.
I lived round the corner from the Gunnys and apart from my car burning out in their pub car park, i've not been shot...or shot at.

Why do people always mention the Trip when talking about pubs in Nottingham? The Bell in the square is older, nicer and has better beer. Other than that having lived there for a couple of years I'd say the place is a dump do a quick round of the Robin Hood attractions then get out before the sunsets and the loonies come out. Saturday night out in Nottingham is a sight to behold just beware everyone is looking to fight anyone for any reason and you should survive.

Nottingham is a great city and try and get your facts straight about the trip and the bell before you post.

Yeah since Uni started again on Saturdays it's getting busier on busier. On Friday I went to see Stanton Warriors and I've never seen it so packed, both rooms and outside were all rammed.

nottingham is a ****hole. i lived there for 3 years whilst i studied at the uni. i do remember liking bzr, however.

Yup, Beedham's its called. Johnny Pusztai is the fella. Tell him Jacko sent yer! ;)

Ah.. I was wondering why that name was familiar, I've had a dish either at Sat's or at 1877 which had some of his bacon or something on! Actually I'd recommend 1877 too - had a couple of nice lunches there.

So, you didn't like Nottingham because it was a hole, but you did like bzr, which is one of the most awful bars in the city?

Ever been to Notts? lol

Lived here all my life, but then again, I'm in a decent area. Never been mugged, threatened or anything, and I go out around Notts every weekend. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. :p

I will be glad once I finally move away from here, but I'll definitely miss it.

since we are de-railing the thread with tall tales of how awful nottingham is.. I've lived here for almost 13 years, in that time living in Hyson Green, Radford, and currently on the city edge of st anns.. and in that time how many times have I been burgled? none, mugged? none, stabbed? none... shot at? NONE...

The people that tend towards these are the ones that generally go out expecting it.

Last I checked, tales of robin hood had closed, it was dull anyway..
Castle can be interesting, The Trip, Royal Kids, Salvation arms, Chambers, are all nice little pubs, mostly quiet, depending on the time of day, few good eateries around the city centre, in the evening, yeah, cornerhouse, the arena, any number of clubs... Senoritas/Isis, has been closed down by the police recently with the view to removing their license due to trouble that they've had there, but this is the problem with many city clubs in any city you chose to go to, not just nottingham..

Really all depends on what you would want to do, in a day and a night..

Personally, Castle/Galleries of Justice/Caves followed by one of the quieter pubs / restaurants..

The Curry lounge is decent enough, a bit popular though after Gordon Ramsey got his mitts on it and turned it around.

Coco tang is a great cocktail bar which seems to alternate between being completely empty or packed to the rafters, nothing in between.

OP, what sort of thing do you like? This should give those of us who live there a better idea of what to suggest.

I have to agree with Ceryndion's views, I've only lived there 3-4 years, not 13, but I've lived in St. Annes and Radford (actually opposite the site of the goosefair - annual chav/gypo meet) which are considered the two roughest areas of the city. I've never had any trouble in my time there and I go out in town every other weekend and more often than not walk home.

Despite never having any trouble I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm not thankful about moving to west bridgeford :p
