Things to do in Nottingham

Coco tang is a great cocktail bar which seems to alternate between being completely empty or packed to the rafters, nothing in between.

We were going to go there the other week and the queue was ridiculous!

I think I might find it a bit depressing after so many awesome nights at the bomb though :(

Probaly Tantra, we allways end up in there at some point in the evening when in town.

Worth putting on the list if you're hitting the town for the night, it's a unique place compared to all the standard chain bars.

Christ! Went there last Friday. Talk about cheesy tackfest!!!

I've been here all of 3 weeks, and I have to admit that this thread doesn't fill me with reassurance.

Aren't there any classy or nice places to go out in Nottingham during the evening?

In terms of classy/nice bars? Saint's bar is pretty nice and classy, but pretty expensive.

Thanks Oli. I'll check it out.

Anywhere else that's decent? Other nice chilled out but atmopsheric lounge bars? Prefer somewhere where you don't get 20 lads coming in on the pull or load of slappers dolled up to the nines but has a good atmosphere? Am I hoping for too much?

The people that tend towards these are the ones that generally go out expecting it.

I certainly wasn't expecting to be mugged, in Nottingham or anywhere else. I'm 6'2", 15st, and I look like I should be the one doing the mugging. Women and old folk regularly cross the street to avoid me.

I think a more likely explanation is that you have been lucky, and I (along with hundreds of others) have not. It could happen anywhere, but the statistics for Nottingham are a little higher than would be expected for a city of its size.

A fair few around Lace Market/Hockley. Brass Monkey has a pretty cool atmosphere, Eleven is good if you like house/techno music, Brownes can be OK, Market Bar used to be good years ago but I haven't been for a long time. If you're drinking midweek, Pitcher and Piano can be nice, sadly during the weekend it gets more of a chavvy crowd, it's a shame because it's a really nice venue.

There's also places like the ropewalk which is a nice bar/pub around Canning Circus, it used to be a student pub but they did it up and turned it into a smarter place.

almost garunteed to run in to a beating or lose your money and valuables if you wander in to some though :p

No you aren't. I've been through St Annes hundreds of times during the day and night and nothings ever happened to me

Thanks Oli. I'll check it out.

Muse (I think its spelt like that) in Hockley is quite nice for that.

Sal****er tends to attract couples. not crowds. Its quite relaxing. Sadly you're going in january so the huge outdoor balcony overlooking the city is not likely to be open.

Agreed that Salt Water (keeping the space there, lol) in the Corner House is a great bar. A little expensive, but worth it to relax for a quiet evening. The doormen don't allow any guff in there.

There are tons of places to have a nice evening out in Notts - just stay away from the usual troublesome franchises like Wetherspoons and the others tucked at the back of the Waterfront. Town tends to get absolutely packed at the weekend though, and others are right in saying it really does become full of drunkards (although most are the funny type, not violent), and stag/hen dos.

I've lived in Nottingham for about 5 years now and never had trouble when out on the town. The only issue is the escalating number of chavs (I get more trouble on my doorstep from them - and this is in Rushcliffe - than I do when out and about), but this is undeniably a problem all over the Country.

Notts has a reputation, and enough goes down for it to have earned it, but just like any other big city in the UK just don't get yourself involved, don't act like a victim and you'll be just fine.

The Old Angel in Hockley is a good and friendly rock bar if you're into that. They also do awesome burgers. Shall be there myself this friday.

Big Al on the door is an ex kick-boxing buddy of mine. He was massive back in the day and nearly axe kicked me through the floor once. Nice guy though! :)

Agreed it is expensive, but as you say, nice to relax without the eejits filling the place.

Good point about Muse, I was only in there the other week, and I second/third sal****er.
