Who dares wins

Besides, I check in from time to time (usually when an RTM pings in) - though I don't have to justify myself to you.

If I were abusing the internet connection I'd get pulled up on it. I get my work done, and am achieving significant results, so I reward myself with some time on the 'net. I reward my staff through bonus schemes or flexibility for time off, leaving early, or holiday times etc...
As I mentioned if I feel a member of staff is flagging and is doing no good, I'll send them home (although they won't get paid a full day's pay) and hope that they come back in bright eyed bushy tailed - more often than not they do, and I can count on 1 hand the number of times this happens.
People wouldn't understand a powernap, they'd go for a sleep, and how can one enforce a powernap? I let them go out for a smoke (then again my boss smokes so it's hard to ban it altogether

) have breaks for making tea etc... some of the guys do a mini-handover among themselves so that they can go and put their feet up for lunch for 10 mins or so - which is great.
If I could enforce a powernap I'd be happy to let them do it, but let's be frank here, withouth delving into the murky road of the HSE/Human rights and such, I'd have no right to interfere with someone who's asleep, they may have a medical condition, etc... if I have people taking powernaps all over the place, how do I know that it's not the same people doing it every 5 mins, and how do I know that they are only going to sleep for 15 mins? I know I have the discipline to do it, but short of employing someone to monitor everyone's "powernaps" it would be ridiculous. So rather than doing that, if anybody falls asleep, apart from getting a ribbing from everyone else, I have a chat with them - and I make my call based on the person.
I'm not as hitlerish as I come across, I'm a firm but fair, and more often than not very understanding and patient - I just can't deal with mickey takers. To avoid mickey taking, we ensure that the opportunity for such activities is not there. Please tell me you understand my reasoning.
